Say a prayer for the common foot soldier, Spare a thought for his back breaking work.
Say a prayer for his wife and his children Who burn the fires and who still till the earth.

Memorial Day is not about barbecues or 500 mile races or guns or killing...
It is about rememberence for those who died in our names.

I'm afraid I'm an atheist so I cannot pray for those who have fallen in our name but they will always be in my thoughts, especially Drummer Lee Rigby, a son, a husband, a brother, a father...so sad...I can find no words to describe my anger or disgust at this time...here's to our troops worldwide and the common cause.

Thanks for this, my (same old, same old) friend.

My "in memoriam" thoughts include the non-soldiers as well; prisoners and regular folks captured, held, killed in the name of what?

Makes me wonder if the ends justify the means, if the means is peace.

It's something I've been thinking about.

p.s. - you as a cat-lover will appreciate this - it took me more than 15 MINUTES to post this due to the Beans deciding that the spot smack-dab in front of my monitor was the place to be. I finally lured her down with some treats.

    You're welcome, my Sweets.
I hope we (humanity) are evolving towards the enlightenment that War is futile and will eventually figure out that we are all of the same human race and find a way to settle our disputes without killing each other's young people.
Cat treats... all you have to do is shake that plastic container and they do whatever you want them to.

We still have that open lunch... we can meet each other's mates. Ever go to 'Swingers' on Beverly (just west of Fairfax)? I was there last night after the 'Queens of the Stonage' gig for a late nighter. Ran into Alain Johannes as i was leaving. That was pretty cool.
    Have a great weekend.

I've seen bold knights, dropping down like flies.
I've seen Kings, rolling in the mire.
I've seen God, point the finger of doom to our foes.

I have fought in the holiest wars.
I have smashed, some of the holiest jaws.
I've been jailed, been impaled and been dragged through the world.

One thing, I have learned through these years,
Is that no man, should be stricken with fear.
It should be that he walks with no care in the world.

So my friends, who are gathered today,
Hear this clear for I'll not further say:
That no man, shall cause me to take up arms again.

Don't worry, Obama is bringing then all home real soon.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Thank you, Soldiers and Vets. Many of us who do not support war do support you none-the-less.

    Peace.

    You too, buddy.
(and you're right about shaking the container - except now it's a peacock feather. Both cats have become my reluctantly-eager slaves.)

Gonna have a listen to yet more Doors this morning - Unknown Soldier among them.
