Saturday: My buddy and I arrived at the COBO Center at 9:30 AM. Box office was opened at 10:00 AM and we got our wristbands at 10:06 AM (didn't buy credentials). It was a good thing we did this because I learned later on that fans got to the will call line after 11:00 AM and they were stuck for over 3-4 hours. There were only two lines for will call (more have been opened since). One reason why a lot of fans have will call, including us, is because fans who lived OUTSIDE the United States has will call as their only delivery option.
We then got in a shuttle at about 10:50 AM and arrived at the festival at about 11:20 AM. Gates opened at noon and the Star Wars song was playing. We first went to the Metallica Museum, which we saw some cool old-school things from Metallica, including the last bass guitar Cliff Burton before he died in 1986 and the double-neck guitar James Hetfield used when he got burned in Montreal on August 8, 1992. We then went to the Car Show and saw the Globe of Death (I wasn't there at the time James Hetfield was there). We then had lunch: I had a Feed ‘Em All combo at Srodek’ Polish Deli, which was half of a Keilbasa, three perogies and a cabbage roll for $12. It was really delicious. We then checked out The Bronx at 2:00 PM, a hardcore punk band from Los Angeles. They played a pretty good hour-long set. I don’t remember when I did it, but I did buy RPM 10 by Rise Against before seeing The Bronx. After The Bronx, my buddy himself bought RPM 10 and went to check out the Enter Met Club Tent a bit. We saw more cool stuff from Metallica. We then went to the line-up for the Rise Against autograph at 3:30 PM and there was a long line, behind was even longer. It actually started a few minutes before 4:00 PM and when it was our turn, I just simply said hi and said a few nice things to all four members, shook hands and had my album autographs. They seemed like nice people. No pictures were allowed, which doesn’t surprise me because it was a long line and I know they have a limited time at the tent (like 45-50 minutes). Then, we checked out more cars at the Car Show and then relaxed in the Ultra Lounge and had an early dinner, eating a chicken Vietnamese hot-dog with carrot, some kind of aioli and I don’t remember the rest that was in it for $9.
We were unaware that dehaan was actually Metallica. As a result, I missed the first half of them playing Kill 'Em All in its entirety. We only caught them because my buddy wanted to pick up his cell phone at the charging station and I told him I wanted to check out Tomahawk on the Fuel Stage, which they were supposed to start at 5:00 PM. They weren't on yet and noticed all the fans at the Damage Inc. Stage. I was wondering what was going on and was shocked that Metallica were there. I remember actually overhearing Whiplash and thought it was an impressive cover only to see it was actually Metallica. At least, I saw them play, Metal Militia, something I may never ever see them play again when I go to their future concerts.
Afterwards, I just didn’t care anymore: instead of checking out Tomahawk, we went back to the Orion Stage and saw Rise Against. Great, but a bit short, two more songs and I would have been very pleased. Bass was very loud though. After this, we went to fill up our water bottles one last time and we had a bit of issues to get back in the Ultra Pit. We then went to the Ultra Lounge and somehow managed to get in easily. Of course, for Red Hot Chili Peppers, it is first-come, first-serve so everyone was allowed in, but they only allowed everyone in the Ultra Pit at 7:55 PM, which was really weird. RHCP started at 8:05 PM and ended at 9:50 PM. Early, but I knew they weren’t going to play two hours. Great set and they played pretty much everything I really wanted to hear. Also really crazy as there were so many crowd surfers and there was its fair shares of mosh pits during RHCP. After this however was a nightmare: after picking our stuff in the locker, we got out of the festival at 10:10 PM but there were so many people already ahead of us and the shuttle thing was disorganized. Because of this it was really tough to get in a shuttle and we finally got back to our hotel at about 11:20 PM. The shuttle drove us back to the COBO Center and we walked back to our hotel. That was Day 1.
Sunday: We went to our lockers to stuff my bag and then went to the Kirk Crypt. I got zombified before getting in and check out the cool horror stuff. We saw some of the celebrities that were there but I didn’t score an autograph as, to be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of horror to want to score one. I still thought it was really cool.
Then, we had lunch: I had a Triple Threat on a Stick (Ham, Confit Bacon and Smoked Pork Butt) which I added Apple BBQ sauce for $8 and a two scoops of ice cream in a cup from Trenton Ice Cream Shoppe for $5 (it was chocolate, caramel and vanilla). They were really delicious. We then checked out Cauldron, a heavy metal from Toronto with a classic heavy metal sound and some of the skateboarders demos. We enjoyed it a lot.
Then we saw the remainder of The Dirtbombs set on The Frantic Stage. During their set, two of the drummers actually jump in the crowd and one of them brought a big percussion and played there. I even joined in and danced like an idiot. One of them also sang with the crowd. I also high-fived the two members. That was an insane moment. We enjoyed what we heard from them.
Afterwards, we went to the Enter Met Club and my buddy and I took a picture for the "And Posers For All" as well as getting a beer. We then went to the Orion Stage for The Joy Formidable, only to learn they couldn't make it due to travel delays. I knew something was wrong because it was getting close to 4:00 PM and there weren’t any microphone stands. It was at 4:15 PM that someone came on stage to tell us the unfortunate news. So we went to the cell phone charging station before we checked out Trujillo Trio (Rob Trujillo on bass, Tony Trujillo on vocals and guitar and Ashley Trujillo on drums) at the Damage Inc. Stage. Extremely loud, even my earplugs were no match for their loudness. We also got a nice surprise from them as Mike Muir and Dean Pleasants of Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves join them at the end of their set.
We went to the Ultra Lounge to relax and have dinner: I had a chicken burrito with beans, rice, cheese, salsa and protein for $9. We then went to the cell phone charging at 5:45 PM so that my friend can pick up his cell phone and then we check out Fu Manchu. After this, we went to the Sanitarium Stage and saw about 10 minutes of Destroid: I didn't dislike it, my buddy insisted to come to the lounge (guess he wasn't enjoyed it). Though from what I saw, they were really cool: all the members wearing unusual robotic costumes which the costumes were glowing (somewhat reminds me of Daft Punk) and they were actually playing instruments. Also, steam was coming out, which I thought it was cool. I hope they come to Toronto soon.
Now back to my story: thank goodness he dragged me out of Destroid because of the issue for the Ultra Pit: There were a bunch of regular 2-day passes holders in the pit who refused to leave and the security wasn't kicking them out. Also, the security wasn't doing their job properly from what I've been told: VIP and Met Club Ultra Pass holders (which is what we have) have EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO THE FRONT OF THE STAGE (a.k.a. The Pit)" during Metallica’s set. We finally got in at 7:55 PM (I heard some fans who had Ultra Passes couldn’t get in until the 3rd song or worse, not at all). Although not as close to the stage as I was hoping to be, at least it was calm where we were. Metallica took the stage at 8:15 PM and played a great set for 2 hours and 10-15 minutes. After Seek and Destroy, the band members were throwing away their guitar picks and drumsticks and said their goodbyes, but we were already leaving in order to avoid the nightmare we had on Saturday. Of course, we took everything out of the locker before leaving the festival. Luckily, it was better organized last night and we got back to our hotel at around 11:15 PM. Also, the shuttle dropped us off a bit past the Marriott hotels, which is where my parents, my buddy and I stayed at (my parents were nice enough to drive us to Detroit and they stayed there while my friend and I had fun at the festival). Best weekend ever and I hope the festival will be much better organized next year. And I hope to be there again as well. It will be tough to match this.
I read things that Orion Music and More Festival will be back in Detroit for the next two years.
Other facts: I also heard the music from many bands throughout the two days, including foals, Dead Sara, Dirtyphonics, Borgore, little of Dillon Francis, saw Bassnectar from far but couldn’t actually hear his music on Saturday. Sunday, I overheard Dillinger Escape Plan, All Shall Perish (someone told me that there was a Wall of Death during their set), Adventure Club, 12th Planet and Datsik and the drumming from Japandroids. I learned about the Sanitarium Stage that when an EDM artist finished his/their set, the next DJ takes the stage immediately. That was the case when Borgore finished his set, Dillon Francis immediately went on. I also learned that James Hetfield was at the Car Show on Saturday (not sure about Sunday), Kirk Hammett was at the Kirk Crypt on early Saturday (not sure about Sunday as well) and someone was actually lucky enough to score an autograph from Ray Burton in the Enter Met Club. More interestingly, Dropkick Murphy’s told the crowd about Metallica before they played I’m Shipping Up To Boston and most of the crowd ran for them. I thought it was very classy of them. My buddy and I were in the Ultra Lounge when that happened, but we could only hear their music.
Overall, I would give my experience to Orion Music and More Festival 4.5/5. My most negative view on this festival was how poorly the security handled the Ultra Pit before Metallica’s set. I mean, the fans paid GOOD MONEY for these Ultra Passes and some of them couldn’t even get in at all. Does this make me not want to buy Ultra Passes the next time I go to Orion in Detroit? No, because security will likely be a lot better for the next two years. Also, even if I did buy regular 2-day passes this year, I probably wouldn’t be successful to sneak in the Ultra Pit. It was still worth every penny for me.

i saw jesus in the gospel tent when aaron was singing, and i didn't even have to raise my arms in the air
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride"!

As well as seeing a load of bands there is so much more to see at Glastonbury and the nightlife is incredible. Got to see a secret DJ set by Thom Yorke and i'm hearing of a lot more unannounced sets that took place over the weekend.
Friday
Arctic Monkeys - Smashed it, great set and the strings version of Mardy Bum was very classy.
Dizzee Rascal
Peace
Swim Deep
Dog is Dead
Saturday
The Rolling Stones - Worked our way to the front of the Pyramid stage and stood for 8 hours waiting for them to perform, it was worth the wait. They were incredible playing a 'hits' set. Highlights were paint it black, sympathy for the devil (with a mechanical fire bird structure at the top of the Pyramid being used to good effect) Start me up and an epic singalong to you can't always get what you want.
Primal Scream - Always been a fan but most of the crowd were only there to see the Stones.
Elvis Costello
Ben Howard
Laura Mvula
Sunday
Mumford and Sons - Not bad but shouldn't have been headlining in my opinion. Nice Beatles cover ended of the set.
Smashing Pumpkins - Really enjoyed them, Tonight Tonight was a highlight.
Editors
Kenny Rogers - This guy is a legend, dragged all my fellow campers to go see him and they loved it. The atmosphere for his set was one of the highlights of my weekend.
Spent the rest of out time sitting in the sun with a few beers, wandering round the massive festival sight and witnessing some insane things going on, messing around in the circus tent and cabaret tent and getting my hippy side on in the green fields area.
Great festival would highly recommend it to everyone...
