Anybody take these? My mother swore by them... had me take one everyday growing up.

I haven't taken a single vitamin since I left for college. shrug.gif

Unless your doctor tells you that you need some kind of supplement, I wouldn't bother.

I take a multi and a bunch of others cuz I'm old and I need them.

The secret is to take a good quality vitamin with no binders or fillers, Garden of Life is a good store buy.

I take extra vitamin c in the cold season when I feel a cold might be coming up. I'm a smoker too... So far I didn't get anything. Everything else is hysteria I think. Eat more veggies and fruit, that should suffice :)

They do add up. But you're still young, eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and cheese curds and you'll get the proper nutrients from your foods.

It's useful to take certain vitamins, and taking others is useless. The following vitamins are helpful in pill form (by virtue of how the body absorbs different vitamins and minerals):

    B Complex
    Vitamin D
Calcium (which should be taken with Vitamin D)
    Vitamin C
Potassium (if you tend to get muscle cramps at all, even very minor, this one is particularly helpful)
Magnesium (ditto, in combination with Potassium)
    Zinc
    Folic Acid

All the others, you should just get from food, since buying it in pill form is pretty much a waste of money. Nothing wrong with taking a multivitamin, although the amounts of the above vitamins/minerals in one multivitamin is pretty low - you're better off taking them as individual supplements. But a multivitamin certainly can't hurt. I personally take B12 (unless I'm eating a lot of red meat), potassium, and magnesium as separate pills, D in the winter, PLUS a multivitamin just to cover all my bases. I also drink a lot of milk (at least 2 cups a day). That's chock full of different nutrients. I know some people think even this might be pointless, but how I feel doesn't lie, and I really do feel better when I follow this regiment, so that speaks for itself, for me. :)

I try to get my vitamins naturally through food.
I do take multivitamins from time to time though as a supplement to my diet.

"Supplement" as vitamins are called should be just that IMO.

It's always best to get your vitamins from natural sources... The problem is that most people can't actually get the DV% of all the essential nutrients. It just means too much of a variety and amount of food that needs to be eaten on a daily basis. Of course everyone should do their best to reach that goal, but it's close to impossible to actually get the recommended daily intake even with a healthy and varied diet (which does make me wonder about where they get these recommended daily intake numbers....). Anyway, I figure people should just play around with vitamin and mineral supplements and actually pay attention to whether or not their bodies feel any better or not. And of course some people just need supplements... people who don't drink milk will likely need a calcium supplement. Those who hate bananas should probably take potassium supplements... those who never eat fruit should be taking Vit C, and vegetarians and vegans should probably take B Complex supplements, people who just don't eat a really varied or healthy diet for whatever reason should certainly take supplements, and so on...

Multivitamin (can get monster container of generic from Sams Club)
    B Complex
    Green Tea Extract
Omega 3/Fish Oil (I have a phobia of eating anything that lives in the water)

if you eat a bunch of processed foods then I would recommend taking one.

to find a good quality vitamin, drop one in a glass of water, if the vitamin doesn't fall apart within 15-20 minutes, it's crap since your body won't absorb the nutrients.

I'm with PJ_Soul, you really only need a B-Complex and if you live in an area without a lot of sun, then take a D vitamin. i like the Omega 3 and 6 supplements, and CLA.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
