    My family was visiting my uncle in Newark, Delaware today. When we got out of the car you could hear them pretty loud and clear. Thought it was a siren or something at first. Luckily they still haven't made their way to the suburbs of philly yet.

    I am visiting my parents right now in Maryland. The cicadas are insane. I took a video of the noise they are making in their backyard. It sounds like aliens - this amazingly loud staticky shrill noise. I wanted to share the video - but not sure how to upload it here from my phone.

    I was just sitting outside on my parent’s deck and one landed on me. When they are all making noise together it sounds like a staticky racket. But when one of them is making noise near your ear it sounds like a person screaming. It was a very disconcerting sound.

    Years ago I used to teach school in Betesda right across from NIH, Old Georgetown Rd side. Man the years have flown by, that's where I first heard those cicadas in 87'. The noise does sound from another world.
