Why is this funny? What's the joke?

It's about halfway down. I'm baffled by it;

    It's part of a story that goes on daily for probably a week. Looks like it's somewhere in the middle of the story. So just one strip isn't all that funny. I can't tell you if the rest of them are any better.

    You might try making up new dialog. :think:

    They wanted us to go through 4 days of comics to get to a punch line of "Gunky Mess"?

    There are a lot of The Far Side compilation books, and books with comics that were never run in the paper. I used to have a couple back in the day.

    There's also a box set of the complete works, it's about $100 on Amazon, but it's 14 years of The Far Side. It probably has $100 worth of laughs inside.

    Fantastic book...was lucky enough to be given this by my sister, the Calvin and Hobbes fan that she is...so felt I had to return the favour with the C and H book the next year...just as good.
