(CNN) -- The fight against gun-related crime has taken a hit from budget cuts, as a federal agency has laid off nearly a hundred contract workers at its facility dedicated to tracing firearms used by criminals.

Ninety-eight contract employees at the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' National Tracing Center lost their jobs as of March 31 because of the forced budget cuts known as the sequester.

congress had the power to make the necessary changes and refused to. Instead they went campaigning. Same with the senate. Utter refusal to come together and do the nations work. And we keep voting the same people into office.

  • who gives a shit?

we got across the board cuts. congress refused to act. every government agency knew their budget was getting cut. why does everyone sound so surprised now?

funny how everyone in congress and their constituents are complaining now when they should have been complaining to their representative to do something before the sequester hit.

the republicans mocked obama and said he was overstating the effect that the cuts will have. now that they themselves are inconvenienced by the wait at the airport they pass a bill unanimously to take care of the problem :fp:

They are cutting contract workers, not employees.

as I read it, it was contract workers carrying out the task of doing background checks.

So , not only do the fuckwits get to vote down bringing it to the floor for a vote, they get to back end the laws already in place!!

I tell it must be real difficult to get shit done when you are seemingly always in recess.

If we were all smart, we should be banding together and demand term limits.

That should be topic #1. Until we can rid ourselves of "leaders" that have been in office for decades, nothing will change.

Well the Obama ATF purposely allowed guns to be sold illegally in order to track them to Mexican drug cartels and lost a whole bunch in the process. The Gunwalking Scandal resulted in deaths north and south of the border. After this horrific covered up behavior by what right does this ATF deserve to keep their budget intact?
