Huh. We were talking about that just this morning, thought it interesting there's been not one word about this since it all went down.

I really wish WE wouldn't foot that settlement (god knows we can't afford it), and that it'd come out of those who jumped the gun, so to speak.

The two women should be compensated for their pain and trauma, no doubt. Just wish this weren't yet another fuckup that LA citizens had nothing to do with but will end up paying for.

(by the way, where'd you see the $4.2M number?)

It's in the title on the ABC news app. Odd that it is not in this one.

Personally I'd take no money over getting shot any day.

Taxpayers should bear no fiscal responsibility in this case.

The police union should be footing this bill.

Why not? Two of their members unloaded a couple clips each at a two elderly hispanic women sitting at a red light. And people that just filled out their W-2's are paying the bill.

How many cops does 2.4 million dollars take off the street? Part of the dues should go to funds to cover screw-ups like this.

    edit:

    4.2 million dollars. My bad.

How many cops does 4.2 million dollars take off the street?

following your logic...I say the gun manufacture should help pay this bill, too...

Edit: looks like six cops were involved, not two. So maybe it was just a clip each.

I wonder if they still have their jobs after costing their employer $4.2M? Can't find their names on google. Only know that they were placed on leave following the shooting.

They sound like they are incompetent ... and have horrible, horrible accuracy.

The officers involved don't benefit financially from gun manufacturers.

Following the stream of logic, the bill should be split halfies between the public and the union.

And we would all benefit down the road. No way we settle for $4.2M if the union has to foot part of the bill.

I still don't understand why you blame the union...did these officers work for the union...?

are you saying since they may have been members of the union, the union should pay...? I wonder if they were members of a church or the PTA or the NRA..? should they pay, too...?

I get that you're hating on Unions...but tying them to this is silly....

But they were acting in the capacity of an officer. Why should taxpayers be held financially responsible for their actions?

As to unions, I may be wrong, but I thought most if not all officers are unionized. I don't blame them (the unions) but do agree that there should be contributions/input into funds that would cover some portion of these types of settlements.

I'd say that they should be fired and charged with attempted murder. That might stop this garbage.

I agree. This was one of the dumbest things i've ever seen. I can't even fathom how this happened.

I googled wondering if they were punished. Seems just desk duty during investigation.
Then tax payers pay 4.2 million + 40,000 for the vehicle :? where's the consequence?
and a corrupt police department to boot. :? Any consequence for that either?
This was such a bogus mess from the start.

So they're still paid. Makes me nuts.

As to the department being corrupt, nope. Like any other group (like us all) there are those who are shady and those who are not.

Most of the officers I've dealt with are good people.

The ones who aren't should face the consequences of their actions - again, like us all.

    agreed ...
unfortunately corruption continues because no one speaks up,
the Feds got ten cops here for corruption but we know, tip of the iceberg.
Bribes are a huge problem ...

Not shocked by the settlement it could have been far worse. However what I'm surprised is the fact that the officers shot over 100 times into that Toyota and these women were not killed. The officers need to go back to the range and leave the donuts alone.

What about the fact there were 8 officers on scene... not sure how many shots were fired from how many weapons... don't know the distances... or the visability... but, no one was killed. These cops thought they were shooting at Chris Dorner, who was known to be in possession of several weapons, including a semi-automatic rifle.
How bad are these cops at firing their weapons? I mean, I can see if it were me shooting at these women... I'd probably miss... but, I'm not a cop, i'm an office worker... i'm not supposed to be able to shoot very well.

the guys are employees of the city, acting on behalf of and supposedly for the benefit of the general public at large, therefore the public pays.

Actually the city should have some kind of insurance or fund already set up for shit like this.
