the head mistress opposed spanking in school
still somehow she’s breaking some unspoken rule
seems a little head is all it takes
for a book-burning zealot to put on brakes

are you creationists too?
too much science for you?
this is real - this is real life
for science’s sake I was his wife

naughty? maybe
nothing close to vulgar or vile
quickly outrage was replaced with a sly crooked smile
anger was vanquished to the very top shelf
so I could go to bed
and spank myself
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke
