The FBI made no mention of the men's height, weight or age range and would not discuss the men's ethnicity.

"It would be inappropriate to comment on the ethnicity of the men because it could lead people down the wrong path potentially," said FBI agent Greg Comcowich, a spokesman for the Boston FBI office.

Never Never Never have I seen authorities ask the public to look out for a criminal without giving these details.......
It makes people afraid to call in, scared they may be deemed racist if they are wrong.....why are we so scared to call an orange an orange...... Saddest part is the cop that was shot could still be alive if people would not scream Racist at anything and everything........

Perhaps if people had more tolerance and respect for those that are different we wouldn't have to have a conversation like this. As someone with two little cousins that have been harassed since they entered kindergarten because of their dark skin and "Arabic" look, I get a little frustrated when people lack common courtesy and respect of people of other nationalities. My cousin married a CHRISTIAN Pakistani girl and they moved to Georgia so he could be a preacher. They have had to move from their community and leave the church he was preaching at and have had to homeschool their kids because they were so bullied simply because of the color of their skin and the ASSUMPTION that they were Muslim or Arabic. Being PC is just another way of showing tolerance and respect for others.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

Kindergartners are bullying? Well I do agree SOME people bully due to skin color......but I am talking about crime. Do we let people get killed because of PC? When a person commits a crime they do not deserve respect or tolerance...... Authorities have ALWAYS given the basic information (descriptions) when looking for a criminal.
Now who knows were this other bomber is held up....in someones house....someone with children? Will he kill another innocent family?

Tolerance goes out the window in a terrorist attack. The authorities should have give this information. I don't know why they wouldn't. I would imagime they have a russian accent. That's huge when u combine that with a picture. Seems they wasted to much time worrying about tolerance.

I agree that the FBI and police should have given basic descriptive information in this instance. However, I think many Americans are sorely lacking in understanding the basic ethnic makeup of the various regions of the world that are represented here in the US. If these guys are from Chechnya, I wonder if the average American even knows where Chechnya is and if they truly understand anything about the ethnic groups from the Caucusus. I used my own personal illustration to demonstrate that the FBI or the police giving some of this basic information might be useless when some Americans have so little understanding of the various characteristics of different ethnic groups. And yes, kindergartners bully - wonder where they learned it? When we can't tell the difference between a Pakistani and an Arab then I think this is when investigations get botched. Just ask the kid who was identified as being part of this attack in Boston and who is now terrified to go out in public.

so you want them to speculate on ethnicity? you want them to say they are arabic? is it because you want it to be politicized by getting the entire population to look for a dark skinned arab when the true nationality is white guys from russia? do you want american vigilantes to hunt down people of the wrong ethnicity?

can you tell ethnicity from the pictures released by the fbi? i can't. the fbi most likely could not. do you trust the news media to speculate on ethnicity when basically everything every network has gone with has been wrong?

Where they hell is this happening? I don't think any of my kid's classmates even notice someone's skin color anymore than they notice their hair color.

They live outside of Atlanta. I was suprised about this as well as most little kids don't notice this stuff but he had to quit his job and homeschool his kids and it has only gotten worse as they've gotten older.

actually, it probably would have hindered their investigation if you think about it. the call in lines would have been flooded with fearful americans accusing their brown neighbour of being the marathon bomber. this way, at least they were getting mostly non-prejudicial information instead of 1,000,000 ignorant idiots calling in.

Yes, you did. But it is not out of line to note that many Americans know little geography, little history, and certainly little about ethnicity. And I think this contributes to a real lack of understanding about other regions of the world and our place in that world. Guess I'm jumping in that boat with you especially since that term 'PC' really sets me off.

I don't want to politicize it I just don't want anyone else to get hurt because of these guys. I did not understand why the FBI would say ""It would be inappropriate to comment on the ethnicity of the men because it could lead people down the wrong path potentially" They did not say "we don't know the ethnicity".

Why assume "many" know little geography, little history, and certainly little about ethnicity. Anyone that goes to school, works, or are social, associate with different people from all around the world daily. They have friends and many have family members that are all different ethnicity's. This is America the melting pot.

She assumes correctly....many Americans couldn't find Baghdad on a map, can't tell you the difference between Iraq and Iran, don't know the different between shi'a and sunni, and certainly can't tell you if someone is muslim or not. There is no way that someone who lives and works in a small town in rural America is exposed to different people from around the world on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis from any source other than TV and movies and we all know those versions are usually skewed.

And yes America is a melting pot but because of ignorance, lack of exposure, and a faulty education system many Americans just dont know or care about ethnic, religious, or racial differences.
