Timothy McVeigh used 480 pounds of fertilizer to blow up the federal building in OKC. This was an entire fertilizer plant!

It's hard to imagine the destruction this has caused. I want to find a live news stream and look now that the sun is up, but I don't....ya know what I mean?

The explosion measured a 2.1 on the Richter scale. As of 3:30am EST, over 170 injured, and "many" confirmed dead. I hope you guys don't run out of prayers.

I'm currently working at a grain facility ... we are diligent in safety because of the known danger … but to see it in that video … good god is that sobering

That video is so frightening, what in the world was that man and his daughter doing there, so close?? He should have known the chance for an explosion!

This isn't all that far from my place and you could feel the ground shake. Friend of mine had his house entirely leveled. Thank God he and his wife weren't home.

Do you know if they were evacuated by the fd? I've heard they were evacuating people before the explosion.
  • Such a tragedy. My prayers are with the victims and their families.

And sadly I have idiotic friends trying to say the gov't did this. How can anyone think that? This was sadly a terrible thing that happened at a place where such things can happen.

    I thought the same thing.

Based on the press conference earlier, this seems like a very strong and supportive community. Gotta add these folks to the ever-growing list of those needing good thoughts and good actions.

sad story. fertilizer is a massive explosive. scary that we even use this shit. just like those plants like Ortho that make weed & bug killers. those products are actually killing ppl by way of cancer & whatnot.

currently a Egyptian owned company is erecting a massive fertilizer plant something like 8 -10 miles from me. they were given millions of dollars in tax breaks to erect their bullshit fertilizer plant here. from what I've heard it will resemble a small city when the lights are lit as the sun has set.

something like 1 tanker truck will roll out of this plant fully loaded with fertilizers every few seconds 24x7

Not everyone is smart. Obviously, he didn't know the danger or he wouldn't have been there.

Reports of looting?? That's surprising in such a small town.

I don't know... they didn't suggest that, but maybe. Hopefully.

This is about an hour south of where I live. Small town, very pleasant, about 2800 people. Settled by Czech immigrants, they have awesome Czech bakeries. I've stopped there many times on the way to and from Austin. They also have a fun little festival every year called Westfest.

Fertilizer can be so dangerous and it's incredible to think of the devastation for such a small community. Heartbreaking to me to think of the first responders who lost their lives.

For those who saw the video taken by the man with his daughter, on the news this morning they said that the daughter regained her hearing after a short time.
