There is no album on the planet that is anything like this. It's so... insane. Some days, I'm like "Holy shit, I LOVE this.. amazing" ...Sometimes, I'm like "This is just too weird today.. what.the.fuck." Of course there are some songs that are always brilliant and some that require a particular listening mood. I'm curious to hear thoughts on this album. What do you think about it? What are your interpretations of its sound/meanings etc..?

Side note: Can't wait to find out what the fuck the new album ...Like Clockwork will sound like. Love the new single, reminds me of Songs For The Deaf era.

  • I know so many people who have been fans since Kyuss, and they don't like Era or Lullabies. Frankly, those two are my MOST listened-to Queens albums. The new single excites me to no end. I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to it. A few days after it was released, I had it on repeat for the WHOLE day at work. 8 hours. one song. And I'm still not sick of it. It's that good.

  • Era might just be my favourite QOTSA album. The first two tracks slay me every time.

There are some great songs, no doubt, but much of it is lacking in the melody department. Not even approaching the variety and accomplishment of Songs For The Deaf, for me, anyway......

I am loving the new single though, definitely harks back to the SFTD sound.

Great album but holy shit couldn't they have had a way to have all the b-sides in one shot or something?

I had to scour the internets for like 5 whole minutes to track them all down and download them. Does everyone else even know about The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died? It starts out weird but turns into what I feel is one of the best tracks on the album.

I really can't wait for the new album. Already have it pre-ordered

Yeah Fun Machine is a cool song. The title track "Era Vulgaris" is great too. Trent Reznor sings on it. Probably should have made the album.

I've only heard "Fun Machine" through YouTube. I have the Canadian Tour edition CD and that has "Era Vulgaris" plus some covers and live material. It's pretty cool, even if I already had the regular edition and vinyl.

Anyone ever see this "B-sides and covers" vinyl bootleg that floats around on eBay every now and then? Anyone own it?

  • I never realised there were some b sides floating around. I may have to fish for them on the weekend.

They have a TON of b-sides. The "album" I found has over 50 songs. Some are covers or alternate live version and some are just never released songs. Not sure which albums are associated to the b-sides.

The extra tracks/b-sides to Era Vulgaris are all worth tracking down EXCEPT for the remix of "I'm Designer" which could have gone unreleased IMO since it is terrible.
  • I downloaded that 2 disc b sides and rarities compilation, and a lot of them are live tracks, but the studio ones here I wikipedia'd and found where they originated from. Many of them can be found on iTunes, and I've marked those with an asterisk (*).

Back To Dungaree High - Alphamotherfuckers-A Tribute to Turbonegro*
Mexicola (live) - Born To Do It Better*
    18 A.D.- Burn One Up!
Outlaw Blues - Chimes of Freedom, The Songs of Bob Dylan*
All The Same - Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys Soundtrack*
The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died - The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died single (this was supposed to be on Lullabies to Paralyze, but the tapes went missing at the time of release, but later found)
If Only Everything - Gamma Ray
Give The Mule What He Wants (demo) - Gamma Ray
Don't Talk To Me (live) - GG Allin cover
    Infinity - Heavy Metal 2000
Goin' Out West - Sick, Sick, Sick single*
Christian Brothers - Sick, Sick, Sick single (also a bonus track on Era Vulgaris)*
Born To Hula - Stone Age Complication
Who'll Be The Next In Line - This Is Where I Belong (the songs of the Kinks)*
Like A Drug - Lullabies to Paralyze bonus track
Precious and Grace - Lullabies to Paralyze bonus track
Needles In A Camel's Eye - Era Vulgaris bonus track*
Running Joke - Era Vulgaris bonus track*
White Wedding - Era Vulgaris bonus track*
Make It Wit Chu (acoustic) - Era Vulgaris bonus track*
Era Vulgaris - Era Vulgaris bonus track (this was a free download off their website for a while, for some weird reason the version on iTunes is the remix version which sucks)
Bloody Hammer (pretty sure this is a Nick Oliveri/Mondo Generator track)
