Hello,
Just was currious of where people go in southern California for Record Store Day.
I am thinkin about trying Amoeba (Hollywood) this year for RSD. Thinking that they will have the biggest stock of RSD titles? I am wondering how crazy Amoeba is on RSD? Is it worth it? Or would I be better off going to a smaller independent store somewhere else?
If anyone could be give their input/expierence it would be greatly appreciated!

I've done both smaller record stores (Fingerprints in Long Beach) and Amoeba. Being the biggest record store, Amoeba does have the largest stock/selection of the titles as the smaller stores get smaller quantities. Anything super rare is usually gobbled up by people that are at the front of the line. There are quite a few people that will line up early at Amoeba (Tried to find a picture of the line of people down Ivar on the last RSD but their twitter media won't let me go back that far). For the best selection/stock, my advice is to go to Amoeba. Beyond RSD stuff, they have the biggest selection of anybody. I was a little dazed when I tried a smaller place and most of the RSD stuff had been picked clean by the time I got in the store after being about 40 people back in line. Get there early, good luck, and enjoy!

I'll be visiting the ZIA Records tent at Coachella this year for RSD.
  • Thanks for the info! :D
I will most likely try Amoeba this year, have tried smaller stores in the past but it seems like the staff at smaller places gets most of really limited and highly sought after items for themselves. Oh well I guess that is one of the perks of working at a record store.
