Last show I crowd surged at was the second PJ show in seattle in '98. I sort of realized at that point I wasn't a lightweight kid anymore, and was too heavy for crowdsurfing (I was probably 180 pounds at that point).

I agree that for most of us, we go out and watch bands that were big while we were in high school... so the majority of that crowd is no in their 30s/40s. Not really crowdsurfing material.

I'm sure if you went to more recent bands with a younger fanbase you'd probably get some crowdsurfing.

Personally I really hate it now. I'm 6'2 so I'm a little taller than average people height, which means when there are lots of surfers, my head keeps getting sideswiped. It was easier when I was younger and shorter and that didn't happen..

Edit: Last Pearl Jam show I saw crowd surfing at. Calgary 2009. It was a GA festival show, so it wasn't all veteran 10c members up front :)

Haven't seen it at a PJ show, but I was at a Clutch show a few weeks back (to keep relevant with the age of the band/crowd) and there was crowd surfing. There was a 'real' mosh pit too-the kind where people were jumping up and down and bouncing off each other, there weren't any a-holes with helicopter arms trying to punch everybody.

I saw people doing it at The Killers show in December. I couldn't believe my eyes.... Maybe it's coming back with the younger crowds, because that was a pretty young crowd, and they were going for it... at a fucking Killers concert, of all places.

    Does stage diving count?

Last 2 times I saw Mike Patton perform (FNM in 2010 and Tomahawk in February) he stage dove both shows and crowd surfed a little bit; to get back to the stage.

    Awesome.

There was one point at Soundgarden in Toronto a few months ago where throngs of people began to crowd-surf... must've been seven or eight in rapid succession.

This is sooooo wrong and lame. Shows you THAT crowd had zero music knowledge. Who the fuck crowd surfs at the killers??? :fp:

I was surprised! Kind of weird. But that crowd was amped up. And they put on a really good show - almost spectacular.

I still remember the guy in Berlin crowd surfing during present tense...everyone just looked at each other thinking wtf, why during that song?!

People do it at quite a lot of shows here. I've seen crowd surfers in Manchester & Berlin for PJ, don't think there were any at the other gigs. The Gaslight Anthem show last week had billions of crowdsurfers, but those were really young kids. Some festivals in Germany now have a policy that you'll be kicked out if you crowdsurf, which I don't think is a bad idea...the only reason I came out intact from reading festival last year is because we had a guy behind us yelling "heads down girls" whenever the next idiot was coming. I spent 90% of the foo fighters show covering my head and looking at the floor.
