Affordable concert tickets

It can be done! I'm not a fan of his, but Kid Rock has earned my respect for doing this. Now this trend needs to spread around... Will it? And will PJ listen??!

Kid Rock Offers All Seats on Summer Tour For $20

At a time when most artists are raising the cost of concert tickets in order to combat the continuing lack of royalties from diminished album sales, Michigan-born rocker Kid Rock is sympathizing with his financially strapped fans and putting together a bill that will cost just $20 a ticket, anywhere in the venue.

On top of that, Rock and tour partner/concert promoter Live Nation is reducing service fees to $5 a ticket and making a concerted effort to lower the prices on goods available inside the venues, including beers ($4), concession deals, T-shirts ($20), and discount parking.

And Rock’s not going it alone. He’s bringing along a strong lineup of musically diverse support bands. ZZ Top will join in for 16 of the shows, Kool & The Gang will play 10, and Uncle Kracker will be on board for every gig. The tour is scheduled to launch June 20 in Bristow, Virginia, and run through September 15 in Tampa, Florida. There will be three concerts at Detroit, Michigan’s DTE Energy Music Theatre.

“Artists demand so much money, and you have to set ticket prices at [a certain level],” Rock told Billboard. “Everyone's fighting the system, and it's really been all of our faults. We're all fortunate to make as much money as we do, and I can surely take a pay cut and help out in these hard times.”

The first 20 rows of tickets will be paperless wherever possible, and each night, the first two rows of seats won’t be sold until right before the event. Some view Rock’s summer tour as act of charity; others see it more as a way to remain competitive in a crowded tour market.

“Realistically, Kid Rock couldn’t have expected to sell 20,000 tickets on his own at a normal ticket price,” says Pollstar editor Gary BonGiovanni. “This is clearly an effort to try to fill the places up. Everybody realizes the value of a $20 ticket in today’s market. If you’re talking about $25 out the door to go see Kid Rock, that’s a heck of a deal.”

BonGiovanni added that both Rock and Live Nation stand to make back on beer whatever they may lose on ticket sales. “ZZ Top are a fairly expensive act in their own right,” he said. “I imagine they’re gonna need to back up the beer trucks to the amphitheaters since the beers are $4.”

Yes, those threads are on the Porch. Some of us on AMT don't venture far from here (like myself a lot of the time) and thought it was worthy of discussion. But thanks thanks for the heads up.

    Update to the story:
As previously reported, Kid Rock is planning a tour and trying to keep ticket prices at $20. He hasn't been completely successful, however, because of ticketing fees and states that have outlawed paperless ticketing. Guess who is to blame:

"That's one of the times I'm f--king embarrassed to be a Republican," Rock said. "It's f--king Republican lawmakers passing those laws, you dumbasses. They already did it in New York and they're trying to do it in Michigan. I've even called some of those guys to try and stop it."

But the musician's rage wasn't only directed at Republican legislators. "They're taking a f--king five-dollar service charge," he said of concert retailer Ticketmaster. "It's 25 percent of the f--king ticket! That's f--ked up, but I've beaten them up as much as I can. Then Walmart stepped in and agreed to charge just $20, and it includes parking."

He's also putting up tickets on sites like StubHub in an effort to combat scalping. Rock, who said that all musicians "have huge f--king egos," cited overpriced ticketing on tours by artists like The Rolling Stones as a big problem for the music industry: "The Rolling Stones are charging $650 per ticket! That just makes me speechless. I love the Stones, but I won't be attending."

Rock and Sean Penn made a somewhat curious PSA during the election. A plea for bi-partisan cooperation and friendship, the video featured liberal Penn and conservative Rock hurling slurs at each other before eventually coming together.

Widely mocked in the music community for coming out as a Romney supporter, Rock now says he's more of a Libertarian and "isn't in bed with anybody." Not that he's one to hold a grudge: When the singer ran into Obama at a post-election event, he told the president that there were "no hard feelings." C'est la vie, in other words.

Its evident from their last two albums and business decisions, that PJ cares for nothing other than making money... Sad, but true...

I think your right ... even sadder is there is only so much money people need to live a comfortable life and unfortunately these musicians, actors, athletes and many of the business people live extremely comfortable. Of course we are guilty as well because we purchase tickets, merchandise and what not from these people.

But as much as my dog cries and whines ... she is not getting this ...:lol::lol:

I'm afraid you're right on this. Coming from a band who once stood by affordable tickets, it's difficult to believe that they now couldn't care less about it. But they seemingly don't.

And the good tickets will be scalped over face value and Kid Rock won't see any of that money,

PJ could sell all tickets for $20, and when people are paying $100's of dollars for good seats, sketchy ticket brokers would be making a killing.

It's really a no win situation.

At least he's trying something different ... I give him full marks for the effort.

Kid Rock is also bringing along ZZ Top ... and my guess is that ZZ Top doesn't work for free.

Check out the ticket prices on stubhub for the Wrigley Field show. I don't have an issue with it, it's the free market in action.
