Keep Peace in your Soul

It is disheartening how angry people that lack skills in communication call other people on this site nasty names and make foul comments just to close down a thread. It's even more disheartening that the mods let them do it.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they, too, have their story.Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

what's disheartening is the paranoia and bigoted speech that runs rampant around here.

Peace within is a fine goal, one I think most of us are going for in this life (or have even reached, to some degree). But, it's not anyone's place to dictate how another gets there. I'm all for hearing their thoughts, though.
Interesting road, so far...learning little by little.
(also, I must say I "Serenity Now!" was the first thing that came to mind upon opening the thread )
People can and should be capable of respectfully disagreeing.
I never got how being hateful - in any realm or medium - was constructive, no matter the issue at hand.
Everything these days seems to be about education, awareness. So why can't so-called divisive subjects be discussed like rational human beings? Surely some small insight or understanding or personal growth can come to be.
Or, at least make the effort to get there.
