Hi. I am a long time PJ fan who very rarely posts around here (but reads these boards daily) and am in search of some travel advice.

I am planning a trip to Australia and possibly New Zealand (time permitting) this fall. Thinking 14-17 days and have never been. I know there are a lot of PJ fans down under...looking for some tips on places to go, things to do, etc. We are in our late 30s, if age matters, and heading there from the U.S.

Any and all advice appreciated. We have no idea where to start planning!

  • I'm going to Australia next Sunday from the UK for 5 weeks on my first trip.
I'm going alone so I've gone for a tour (STA travel - check it out!) I start with a week in sydney, the tour and finish with a few days in Melbourne.

http://g.statravel.co.uk/trips/australia/ <-- Australia tours and New Zealand on the site to!

http://g.statravel.co.uk/trips/australi ... OAIS/2013/ this is the one I went for... A little costly but I cover a lot!

Worth a look if you're unsure on what to do and you can travel in a group and meet new people!

Hi. I can help for NZ. 14-17 days to do both Oz & NZ would be quite full on. I would think only a couple of destinations in each would be possible really.

If you do decide to include NZ it would depend what sort of thing you're thinking of as to where I'd suggest flying into etc. In your fall, our spring, weather is generally still cold'ish but do you think you'd want to see around a bit, are you wanting a relaxing time(ie week at a beach), do you want cites, country, are you into adventure stuff(bungy-jumping, white-water rafting, hiking)??????

Anyway, PM me for NZ help if you like. :)

  • MUST see MELBOURNE.

If you like beaches, maybe a few days at Byron Bay.

14-17 days is really not much time! Australia is massive.

Good luck, if you get to Brisbane, give us a shout out!

Go to Queenstown in NZ... Do the Nevis bungy jump... You will not regret it... Stayed a few days there, cool place..

I was in Sydney for a few days as well in AU, did the Harbour Bridge Climb, cool as well.. May be a tourist thing but it's a cool tourist thing.. Australia and New Zealand are two amazing places to visit...

if you are in sydney and im just gonna assume you will be, catch the ferry over to manly. its a great way to see the most beautiful harbour in the world. plus when you get over to manly you can watch the surf and curse the seagulls when they steal your fish and chips.
