Poll: Would You Utilize Onsite Shipping Services

Using Wrigley as an example, I'd like to get a general consensus on whether or not you'd use a shipping service (i.e. UPS) that set up a truck outside the venue to ship your merch before the show. I'm trying to gauge demand to see if this warrants a discussion with the manager on N. Broadway. Could be a win-win, or it might go nowhere. Lets just say I'm curious.

    I would not.

I usually only by t-shirts at shows and those I just slip on over whatever else I am wearing. Posters I usually pick up later, either from the artist or from 10C.

Weren't there issues when this was done at Alpine? I seem to recall discussion about extensive overcharging and lost packages.

Using Alpine as an example...it was one big huge clusterfuck.

Yes, 10c did have UPS come out and set up shop so we could ship our merch home instead of lugging it around or dragging it home on the plane.

If I remember correctly, lots of people were not happy. I asked how much it would cost to ship my posters home...$80. I lugged them around with me all day.

I think it would be more beneficial/economical to set up one of those USPS self shipping kiosks, like the ebay users have-it costs $8-10 to ship a poster from NY to Seattle, another $2-5 for tracking/insurance. Of course you'd have a person running the kiosk, but the number one concern would be to have enough poster tubes.

    NO POSTER CONDOMS! :nono:

Alpine was a mess. UPS lost a ton of posters. They lost mine, but fortunately they found it...6 weeks later. It had been shipped to Maryland, even though I was living in Texas. :wtf:

I'd only use it if it were cheap. I wouldn't pay more than maybe $20 max to get a poster to Vancouver that way. Any more, and I'd just carry it home on the plane.

wouldn't everything other than posters have to be packaged first? So you'd have to have people either packing their stuff themselves or have a UPS staffer packing your stuff for you - undoubtedly in a rush because of the line people queued up ......

    actually.....

posters are probably the ONLY thing anyone would want to ship in advance right?

Yeah, I would think so. I'd only ship a poster.

It seems like a good idea but my experience with UPS at Alpine would have me avoiding that mess a gain in the future. It was way overpriced. They lost my posters. Nobody could ev en tell me what local UPS store was setup at Alpine so they could try to track my posters down, etc. No thanks, even though they did eventually track my posters down after tons of phone calls and emails. Not worth the headache.

Not really, it would get pretty expensive that way. I'd be content with an outdoor merch booth in which I could walk back to the car and ditch the poster/tshirt.
