SO, wait a minute. The chute had the door on it?

If so, what more do you really want? It's like opening a window and walking out.

Did you hear about the psycho who went on a rampage in a school using a trash shoot?

    I didn't either.

This is as good an argument as the pro gun crowd can muster for being able to own military grade weapons as really cool things for shooting stuff with. Do you see why it is so important to legislate gun reform?

    Yikes.

Training, size regulations on the chutes, safeguards and restrictions on access to the chutes could all help reduce the death toll significantly.

Public access to R2 units will also significantly reduce the number of people that are crushed to death by compactors in instances that they fall into the trash chute and survive the impact.

Question: How do people 'fall' into a chute... that is 48 inches above the floor?
    ...
And yes... something must be done. Maybe, a law that does not allow people that will climb into a 4 foot high trash chute live above the First Floor of the building.

So, would you simply prefer a land without any restrictions whatsoever?

Do you think that would work out well? Unlimited freedom to do as you please without any intervention aimed at safeguarding the public? Could people actually pull that off? Or are some laws, regulations, and bans bans bans necessary?

Gravity is clearly the problem here, not the chute.. I hate when gravity uses it's powers for evil.. such a shame.. maybe brack-o can do something about this..

I re-thought my position... we have too many laws already on the books and more laws means more stuff we can no longer do... therefore, a clear threat to our freedom... our way of life.
Therefore, i propose more chutes... because, if every building had more chutes... then... more chutes would be available to... more... people, so... they will... be more safer... or something...
Remember, chutes don't kill people, people falling down chutes kill people.

put yourself against a 4 foot high fence. hold something heavy over it. reach a bit further to make sure it gets all the way.

    pretty easy.

My father lives on the sixth floor of a twelve story building. Each floor has a laundry chute that goes to the basement. When I truly believe it is my time to go to the Big Cleaners in the Sky, I'm taking the laundry express down the 12th floor chute. No 13th Floor Elevator for me!

But... the fence does not have a door. And the chute does not run the length of a wall.
It is more like a square hole that is 4 feet high on an 8 to 10 foot high fence. and... the hole has a door on it.
From this report, the doors dimensions are 18 in. x 18 in. It is smaller that the door at the Post Offic Lobby for shipping packages,
    http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/woman-fo ... on=1206833
    ...
Also, more in home trash bags are 13 gallon (tall) and 4 gallon (waste basket) sizes. The 33 gallon Hefty bas are the ones in the garage that the trashman comes to get. most household waste is paper... 13 gallons of garbage is a lot of garbage which will attract a lot of flies and repel most humans.
I don't know what happened... i'm just trying to picture how someone that old hops into an 18 x 18 inch door that is 48 inches from the floor, without the use of a step.
