This act essentially prevents the government from stopping the planting of genetically engineered seeds even if they are known to be harmful for human consumption.
The craziest part is that most congressman didn't even know what they were voting for.

It's hard to avoid those foods but you can do it. Stay away from mainstream grocery stores, stay away from fast food... make as much yourself as you can.
That GMO labeling got voted down her in CA still surprised me. I guess people really don't want to know what crap they are eating.
I agree with the idea of staying away from mainstream groceries and fast food and supporting organic growers. Unfortunately, one of the concerns of these growers is that GMO seeds are disbursed by wind, birds and animals into their crops, often contaminating them. Here's an article from The Progressive that talks about this:

Yes, please.
The World-Wide impact is that Monsanto now controls the terminator seed technology (Gurt), a seeding that sterilizes the seeds of ANY crop, the use of which is banned in many countries and is under a UN moratorium. This new law means that Monsanto can/will make a challenge to get it lifted. Then Gurt will again be used to control our interests in other countries.
Well not exactly.
Monsanto poured millions of dollars into a very misleading ad campaign that claimed that the law was "so poorly written" and "doesn't make any sense."
I actually heard a check out girl at Whole Foods telling customers that "this law makes no sense at all... it's written in such a way that it protects your dog more than your kids" or "this is just going to make your food a lot more expensive and it's not even going to really tell you if you're eating anything unhealthy.... this law was just so poorly written."
None of that was true, but the wasn't a huge budget for ads to counter that... so people just accepted it as truth.
Exactly true. What's frustrating is that money and ads win elections, not educated voting choices.
