After recent news broke of the "Mad Men" star's apparent preference for going without underwear, the zingers have been coming in, but Hamm isn't laughing.

"Most of it's tongue-in-cheek," the 42-year-old told the latest issue of Rolling Stone. "But it is a little rude. It just speaks to a broader freedom that people feel like they have - a prurience."

The gossip pages heated up recently with reports from the set of "Mad Men" that Hamm had to cover up under his wardrobe, lest his endowment prove too distracting.

"They're called 'privates' for a reason," Hamm said. "I'm wearing pants, for f**k's sake. Lay off. I mean, it's not like I'm a f**king lead miner. There are harder jobs in the world."

The latest issue of Rolling Stone hits shelves Friday.
