  • I will go to the Orion Music and More Festival in Detroit, Michigan at Belle Isle on June 8 & 9. It is a festival created and curated by Metallica. They will close one night, while Red Hot Chili Peppers will close the other night. This is the line-up:

Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Deftones, Bassnectar (headliner of the EDM Tent), Dropkick Murphys, Gogol Bordello, Silversun Pickups, Foals, Destroid, Tomahawk, The Bronx, Datsik, Borgore, Dillon Francis, Flag, Adventure Club, The Joy Formidable, Japandroids, 12th Planet, Death Grips, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Dirtyphonics, The Dirtbombs, DEATH, Fu Manchu, Fidlar, All Shall Perish, The Orwells, Battlecross, Cauldron

More artists will be added. There will be other stuff at the festival like James’ Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk’s Crypt, Lars’ Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert’s Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and other fan favorite attractions. So many options, so little time. Both days are scheduled to go from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Thanks! It is too bad you didn't know about this until now. Maybe you should consider this for next year, there are words that the festival will stay at Belle Isle in Detroit for 2014 AND 2015 as well. It is unlikely the line-up won't be the same though. A lot of Metallica fans were not happy with the line-up and are considering not going or won't go for a few reasons:

    1) Metallica are only playing one night and won't play an album in its entirety. Last year, they closed both nights and played Ride The Lightning in its entirety on one night and the Black Album in its entirety on the other night)
    2) Not enough heavy metal bands
    3) Too much EDM, which is something that was not present at all last year.

Including the EDM Tent, there will be five stages at the festival.

I think it's a great mix. When I first saw the line-up, I was disappointed that Metallica would only play one night, but at the same time, I was really happy to learn that Red Hot Chili Peppers will also play there because I never saw them in concert before. I would definitely be interested of seeing Fu Manchu from what I heard, I don't know about Tomahawk though. Strange band, but if I take my time to listen to their music and appreciate it, I may decide to go see them. Though I will really know what I will do over there when the set times are posted.

I will go this festival because I love Metallica and thought Orion sounded really interesting. Plus, I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which is a 4-6 hours drive from Toronto to Detroit. I will go with a friend of mine, but my parents are nice enough to drive us over there.
  • And if you're curious of the prices for the Orion Music and More Festival (taking from Metallica's website in the Met Club News Section):

General admission tickets will be available for the special Met Club price of $125. That's for BOTH days of the festival and there are no service charges!

    • The Met Club Ultra Pass will only be available to Met Club members. This special ticket includes access to the front "pit" area closest to the stage during Metallica’s set, your own lounge area with food and beverage for purchase, better air conditioned restrooms (!), and a separate entrance to the grounds. Ultra passes will be available for $225, again good for BOTH days with no service charges. (THIS IS WHAT I BOUGHT!)

    • The Met Club presale starts on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 AM PST and ends Thursday, February 28 at 7:00 PM PST. After the presale ends, the general admission ticket price goes up to $150. Supplies of both ticket options are limited, so don't wait!

    And also:

$750 for the VIP ticket package including an elevated viewing platform, access to the front pit, complimentary food and beverages, air-conditioned private restrooms, comfy shaded seating. I heard the elevating viewing platform is quite far according to fans who had those last year.

Today, Orion Music and More Festival have added more bands in the line-up. This is their statement:

"We’re excited to announce new additions to the Orion 2013 lineup including a very special Infectious Grooves reunion, plus Rocket From The Crypt, Dead Sara, Vista Chino, and local favorites Calico and Matt Clarke."

Infectious Grooves are Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies), Rob Trujillo (Metallica), Dean Pleasants (Suicidal Tendencies), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction) and special guest Jim Martin (ex-Faith No More). Vista Chino are an American rock band which three of the four members were formerly members of Kyuss. Vista Chino used to be called Kyuss Live!

I'm going to the Governors Ball in NYC. Don't really like the headliners but like the undercard a lot. I feel like a lot of the bands fit well playing in NYC. I just hope the bands I really want to see don't have overlapping sets.

As of now, I have tickets to the following festivals:

    Coachella
    Bottle Rock Napa
    Sasquatch

Definitely in for Coachella and Sasquatch buy I may part with the Napa tix. I'm also eagerly anticipating the Outside Lands lineup as that's quickly become one of my favorite festivals over the last 3-4 years.

I just saw the Peace and Love Festival has been cancelled due to the organizers going bust. Very sorry to hear that and it is very unfortunate that happened. I'm sure you were really looking forward to it.

I went to Reading from 1999 until 2010. But that's got too expensive and fashionable.

I've been to Glastonbury (2007), Download (2006 and 2009), Sonisphere (2009) and V (2004) as well. Plus Main Square in France (2010).

I don't tend to go to any now :(
