Why is it better than being hugged?

Because you get closer to the person!

And has it ever been played live?

    according to the list...nope.

True. However whenever I listen to this one I'm left unsettled. Later in the day I'll realize that I feel disturbed and discontented and can't put my finger on why. Then I realize... It was stupidmop again! I guess that was the whole point.

Not completely true, on March 18th, 1995 in Melbourne, the ninth song of the set was Daughter tagged with Stupid Mop (if you want to count that as actually playing it). They've never fully played it, for obvious reasons lol, but this is pretty much as far as they've gotten. What surprises me, is that they didn't use it as the intro music back when the album came out, that would have been so typically random and PJ to do, but I don't believe they ever did anything like that. Take a listen below, gotta listen closely but it's there! Eddie says "My spanking...that's the only thing I want so much" at 3:20 and continues with a few more lines before starting Another Brick in the Wall. 8-)http://www.pearljambootlegs.org/modules ... 3D&ext.m3u

I was only going by the 'official' playlist: http://pearljam.com/music?order=desc&fi ... er_by=song

Don't think they list songs with 'tags', but it would be kinda cool if they did.

Yeah I see what you mean, like I said, only a tag but if you listen it's definitely there which is interesting just to know they've done anything remotely close to really playing it at all haha.

Yeah I see what you mean, like I said, just a tag but pretty cool to see they've done something to even remotely playing it at all. It's definitely there too, don't think we will ever see it again though lol

I think it's a great tune myself. Musically it builds and builds and gets pretty groovy. The theme doesn't bother me to be honest. It was put on the album to be listened to. Maybe not as much as some of the other tracks but it has its place.

    Great instrumental really.
Agreed. And I wouldn't change it as the ending to Vitalogy. It goes along with some of their first experimental stuff and is a good fit for the end of the album. I understand it not working for everybody but I like it.
