Teenage PJ Fans...where you at??

I went to my first PJ show with my uncle on 5/21/10 when the band played MSG in New York City. At the time, I wasn't even really a fan, I barely knew any songs, but that night was one of the greatest of my life; I was hooked. At that point, I was just 15 years old, turning 16 that July. Now, I am a Freshman in college, and have since been to both nights of PJ20 in WI, M.I.A. in Philly, and I'm headed to Wrigley with my uncle once again this July (the day after my birthday, what could be better, right?) My only issue is that I simply wish there were more fans my age, pretty much to give some sort of credibility back to my generation. Throughout high school and so far in college, I've done my best to support the band in any way I can, and that has included trying to introduce as many friends as possible to the band we all know and love so dearly. But, I've had relatively little success to this point. Now, please don't get me wrong, I've met a lot of people at concerts who I still talk to all the time that are all considerably older than me; I am TOTALLY fine with that (my uncle is 40+ and I can't thank him enough for introducing me in the first place), my point is I'm just curious to see if there are any other Jammers out there who can relate to me. Of course, it's certainly understandable that most people my age wouldn't be fans based on history alone, but like I said, if you're out there, don't be shy! (ladies included... ;) lol )

There are many teenagers on here. some are even younger.
This club has a melting pot of different age groups.

I'm not a teenager. Sorry  . But if you are at a show sure.

My dad gave me his copy of Vitalogy when I was 9. And when we took a road to Buffalo to see PJ, I listened to the album on my walkman repeatedly. Like 15 times. I became so connected, idk how given that I was so young. Every thing about that album was phenomenal. From the old medical booklet inside to the great songs. It stayed with me until this day and will always be.

Wow, that's amazing. I always like to ask people when they first became fans, everyone has their own story, and Vitalogy is awesome, of course. So wait what year did you go to Buffalo, 2003?

Yeah I think it was May 2, 2003. But that's great that you seen that 2nd night of MSG '10. That was an incredible show, definitely one of my favorite bootlegs.

    Vitalogy is a real book.

I finally found a copy at a museum in South Florida a few years back.

    ISBN # 978 1 55709 404 9

It's the strangest non-fiction I have ever read. I'm sure it's still in print.

Yup, I believe at HSBC Arena, I love the version of Crazy Mary from that show. Boom and Mike go off. And oh man, dude it was crazy. My biggest regret is that I knew so few songs. "If I had known then, what I know now," it would've been even more enjoyable than it was. I specifically remember the crowd singing every single word of Better Man in unison and Eddie just stopping to soak it in, just like in PJ20 that you see. Unreal.

Indeed it is, I've done my fair share of research on it, seen some pictures of things in it. Leave it to PJ to come up with that idea, hahaha.

My story...hmmmm...well I guess I heard Garden in my history class as a freshman because my teacher always played music. I loved the song so much I wrote down as many of the lyrics as I could and looked up when I got home. Found out it was PJ. Listened to Evenflow. Became obessed  and here I am. :D End story.

Hahaha we did! It's looking good so far, thanks a lot! The fact you heard Garden in your history class is awesome, I wish PJ was even more remotely a part of my high school. I had to do all the work lol. But that's great anyway, I always love talking to people about how they got interested, especially people our age. What shows have you been to?

Yeah they aren't really a part of my school either, just the one teacher. And most people don't take intrest in a teachers music  Sadly I haven't been to any :( Hoping that will change soon! There's not an awful lot of people to talk to, or at least they are pretty good at hiding. Though I have been able to make really good friends on here because of that reason.

I discovered PJ after starting to listen to Nirvana and wanting to know more about seattle and its music
    Manchester 1&2 2012

Waiting for the next PJ euro Tour

Hoping not to get drown in the wave of life
  • I am 21 years old, but all 3 Pearl Jam shows I attended I attended when I was a teenager. I've been a die hard since the 8th grade really. What got me was listening to Yield in it's entirety. Huge fan of the whole scene though. I'm still waiting to hear Crown of Thorns live, and Breath!!

I'm 18 soon 19, and I listen to PJ since I was ten or eleven. My parents which are big fans of PJ too, always teach me listen to good music, like Hendrix, Zappa, PJ, R.E.M., Nirvana, Beatles, Patti Smith, Doors etc...
I always hated the modern music and I always will, but Pearl Jam are like light in my grey and sometimes sad life.

Hey - Not a teenage fan - but a high school teacher and truly, there are teen fans out there. I play PJ within my classroom and it has surprised me just how many kids know the music...other than what gets played on the radio. Many have become accustomed to my musical choices and have followed PJ on their own, thus. Several kids have grown up with PJ because of a family member and are now fans on their own.

What I do tend to forget about is the fact that these kids generally do not have the cash to support their PJ habit like I can/do - for example, I was thrilled to see RNDM last November and be within one foot of Jeff Ament - but because it was a school night - the younger population had different restrictions.

Be assured there is a younger fan base - and like you, they will take their love of Pearl Jam wherever they go!

Hey I'm a younger fan too! Im 20 and ive been a fan since i was 13. Ive never been able to make it to a concert though because i really struggle on trying to find people to go with. I really want to go to wrigley by myself because i live so close and i still cant find anyone to go with. The only problem is i cant get even a single ticket after all the trouble ive been through without paying $350+

I actually just signed up for the Ten Club today so this is pretty cool. Finally able to talk to other Pearl Jam fans haha!

I'm a HS teacher too. Love that the next generations are "gettin it". I made the call to stay behind and help the generations to follow due to my love for "Jeremy". "All that's sacred, comes from youth. Dedication, naive and true, With no power, and fuckin' nothin' to do...." "And the young, they can lose hope cause they can't see beyond today,...The wisdom that the old can't give away." So all you restless souls, I say, enjoy your youth. I had PJ in mine, glad you can too.

  • Teenage fan right here!

In my second year of college now, been a casual since I was 16 and became a radical fan around 17. My gf got me into tem and though it took me a little while to warm up to them, one day I somehow got to that place where I was completely obsessed and in love. I haven't looked back since. Pearl jam is such a huge part of my life now, and I couldnt be more excited to see them for the first time on this upcoming tour.

I'm sure if any of you other youngsters out there are anything like me you probably curse the year you were born in. My gf and I constantly talk about how awesome it would have been to have been like 20 in 1991. Pj is my fav band of all time and for me honestly that would be heaven. Sadly, I cannot turn back the clock and therefore plan on seeing them as many times as possible now!
