Anyone a fan?
I've started reading about him online after seeing one of his songs played on a music video show last night.
Plus he is mentioned in Kurt's lyrics for Pennyroyal Tea.
Listening to his song samples now on Allmusic.com
Anyone recommend any albums as starting points?

Everybody Knows is a good song. Not too familiar with individual albums though.

Oh man, yeah. Leonard Cohen. Absolutely. Here's one of my favorites:

I'll probably get some flack for saying this, but, for me, he is similar to Dylan--phenomenal song writer, but I don't necessarily want to hear him singing his own songs. Sometimes, yes; most of the time, not so much. There is a good movie that came out a few years ago, "Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man." It mixes him talking about his life with footage of a concert in his honor. Check it out. And, of course, there is Jeff Buckley's fantastic cover of Hallelujah.

Saw him in Manchester a couple of years ago. Amazing show - he was onstage for 3hrs and finished with Famous Blue Raincoat.

Check out Songs of Leonard Cohen and The Future.

Love. I'm sure you actually know more of his songs than you know, ie. The Sopranos theme (Woke Up This Morning), Jeff Buckley's famous cover of Hallelujah, Nick Cave's I'm Your Man, etc. And yes, Kurt was a fan.

I loved his two songs on the Natural Born Killers Soundtrack. I got one of his albums and I kinda forgot about it though.. I'll have to dig it up and re-listen.

I love him. I think he's washed up now - he just doesn't sound good anymore - but he has done some amazing work. The Future, Tower Of Song, First We Take Manhattan, Everybody Knows, I'm Your Man, Waiting For The Miracle, Anthem, Halleluiah ...... Oh so good!

Cohen's "Suzanne" and "Sisters of Mercy" alone- not to mention others- will be around as long as we are. And I don't think it's just the writing- for me it's his voice too.

Well, it's just that his latest album sounded really bad. Yeah, of course it's because he's really old - has to be expected!

It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening.

I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record.

Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
    Did you ever go clear?

Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train
And you came home without Lili Marlene

And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife.

Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
    One more thin gypsy thief
    Well I see Jane's awake --
    She sends her regards.

And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
    What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way.

If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.

Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried.

And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear

    -- sincerely, L. Cohen

  • Cohen is amazing.

His show at Scandinavium, Gothenburg in 20....09 was so amazing. You could tell he had gotten older when he came back in like 2012/2013 though.

Leonard Cohen! Always pleased to see his name pop up. He's the back alley Buddha of modern music. One of our finest.
