World leaders and common citizens alike are waiting to see what decisions will emerge from Rome, but if one former NBA lightning rod gets his way, the cardinals' first audience as they announce a new pope won’t be with the leaders of the free world — it will be with Dennis Rodman.

Rodman, who recently turned heads with not only a visit to North Korea but also an affirmation of its leader, Kim Jong Un, is flying to Rome on Tuesday to meet the new pope, according to TMZ. Rodman said his "people" are trying to arrange a meeting with the newly appointed leader, whenever he is picked

"I want to be anywhere in the world that I'm needed," Rodman told TMZ. "… I want to spread a message of peace and love throughout the world."

While some would question whether Rome is indeed where Rodman "is needed," the newfound peace pursuits by him and other controversial sports figures (think Metta World Peace, who has actually named himself after his goal) is a nice change from wreaking havoc, especially on a global stage.

Meanwhile, Rodman told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he plans to return to North Korea to vacation with Kim Jong Un, who is a diehard basketball fan.

Rodman met with the authoritarian leader in late February during a visit that was not endorsed by the U.S. State Department. The visit came during a period of tension between the countries over North Korea's nuclear weapons testing.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I see smoke coming out of the chimney. "Ooops- no, we haven't made a decision yet. Just chatting it up a bit with Mr. Rodman."

I hope this Pope is fun! With a jolly sense of humor. Who would do great meeting Rodman.
I really liked a few of the US Cardinals that I have seen interviewed. Wish they could be the Pope
but I guess not cause we are a superpower. Let's lose that title and go for Super Pope instead.

Rodman could be the guy saving the world. Don't laugh yet.

How would him meeting the pope save the world? What does he bring to the table that someone else couldn't?

I'd imagine there are a ton of folks who want to meet the new dude...just not getting why the esteemed Mr. Rodman feels he's got what it takes.

Is Rodman like Snoop Lion, claiming he's had some kind of epiphany and is now all spriritual and is the light of the world?
