Been listening to alot of Elton this week... Mostly his pre-80s albums not so much post-80s though (he kind of turned into a Rod Stewart/Phil Collins then, losing a lot of rock credibility).

    My fave Elton tune:

One of the best. Hope him and Billy do another Face to Face tour. Kicking myself for having a chance to go back in 02 and turned it down.

He kinda butchered the tribute to Levon Helm at the Grammys.....couldn't help but annoyingly solo the whole way through. Didn't leave room for anyone else to ruin it.

I got the chance to see him live once and what a great show it was in Landover MD. He's influential in my musical history in that his song Bennie And The Jets was the first song that got me interested in the music called rock. That was 1973-74 I think and I've been hooked ever since.

  • I've seen Elton John twice: once when I was very young in Montreal and the other time was when he and Billy Joel did their Face 2 Face Tour in Toronto on May 26, 2009. My parents & I will go see Elton John again in Las Vegas on April 30.
  • I have a chance to go see him in Vegas in May.

We were humming and hawing about whether or not to go.

I think reading these posts by some of the people psting them has made me want to go.

    I'm going to go.

    Yes he did.
He also massacred Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" at the MusicCares special the few days before...

Elton is a living legend, inspired so many musicians and is incredibly intertwined into culture/music/lifestyle.

That being said, the act is tired, he is a shell of himself and I'm guessing he is struggling through some sort of health challenge. It's a shame actually. In 2000 I saw him and Billy Joel in Connecticut, and Billy stole the show.
I went to the show for Elton

I hope his performance is very good for all of those in this thread who are eagerly anticipating seeing him in upcoming concerts. "I guess that's why they call it the blues"

I saw him in Houston Thursday night and he was outstanding. If anyone is a fan and has the opportunity to see him, go for it. Here was his set. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/elton-joh ... 89118.html
  • When in Vegas in May... got the chance to see the Stones and was quite giddy for the experience.

But I also saw Elton on the Friday night. What a great trip! Two legends of the highest order on consecutive days. Both brought it given their ages as well. They each exceeded my expectations.

To Elton... it was the first time I saw him and he was great. Empty Garden was outstanding. I enjoyed Elton's introduction to the piece- hard not to be a little emotional listening to the song afterwards as well. It definitely brought me back to thinking about hearing the tragedy that hit us in December of 80 (grade 8 beener at the time).

I'll encore this tune and play it to death as well.

My kids will remember this song well.

It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain. What a lyric.

  • I love Elton John. Even though he made us move our stereo system to another room  On Valentine's day, Cav and I listened to EJ, and our then new neighbour (living above us) called the landlord who in turn called us to tell us that we were too loud. At nine pm

It was the subwoofer. Now the stereo and turntable are moved and we never heard of her again, and we are blasting music laaaaaate at night. We bought two Elton lps to remind us of the occasion.

Love the genuine expressions in the crowd and the sing-alongs.

He played this tune when I went to see him in Vegas. I hadn't researched setlists- and was surprised to say the least. As I said before... I have played the shit out of it when driving.

If you were cranking out One Direction... fair enough... but anyone calling their landlord to complain about Elton John makes them a world class dweeb.

 We thought it was ridiculous ... Maybe she just wanted to make a point, who knows. But she did it a week later again. After that, we moved the turntable to another room and now she's quiet. We can hear her snoring though
