Homeland Security Has Purchased 2,700 Light-Armored Tanks

Obviously, the United States government is quickly gearing up its firepower and other equipment to deal with average Americans. You don't need this kind of equipment against the occasional lone nut. Keep in mind that DHS has also recently stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets. That's enough to put about a million bullets into every serious nut job that has popped up in the country over the last 100 years.

There is NO mention of "tanks"
Stop trying to be your own version of Foxnews by putting your own spin on the truth. :nono:

Direct from the link you posted....
The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ vehicles for service on the streets of the United States, reports Modern Survival Blog.

it was that or leave them in Iraq and Afghanistan for the taliban and al qaeda

    But thanks for trying :fp:

That looks like a version of a MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) personal carrier that are replacing the hummers overseas. So far they have been a success over the death-trap hummers.

because it is good to stimulate the economy and those businesses by buying their products, and it is stupid to invest that money in the people who need it. we can't have businesses making products that they do not have customers for...and we can't just invest that money into the sponges who live off of "entitlement programs"...

it is simple ideological logic i guess.

They are pretty bad ass trucks. I can understand why major metro areas would want them, especially for SWAT operations.

I don't know if civilian versions are yet available. I think there is a backlog to get them to the troops. And I imagine they will be around $300K when they are available.

    You make a GREAT point.
The thing is... these 'Tanks' are manufactured here... in the good ol' U.S. of A. The people bitching about jobs, jobs, jobs... are the SAME ones complaining about DHS procurement of hardware... that is not really needed... just to keep the job count up. You can't have it both ways.
Government spending creates jobs to private sector corporations. That is how the C-130 kept its production line going for all of those years... buying C-130s for Coast Guard and Parks Services and all sorts of departments to keep aerospace workers in Murrietta, GA. employed through the 1990s. The production line dropped to something ridiculuos, like 2 per year. Turns out... it was a good thing because the Bush era wars created a demand for C-130s and the line pick up the pace.
    ...
I know... i don't like the fact that we need to keep the production line of mine resistant vehicles going... but, if you know anything about heavy manufacturing... once that line shuts down... it is pretty much gone because it is WAY too expensive to private companies to fire it back up.
    ...
Also... those of us in the machinery that is the Military-Industrial Complex call Aerospace, 'Well Fared For The Working'.
