depends....i bought a ticket to the 09 chicago show 3 weeks or so before the show....lot of people say they have scored great seats day of. last time PJ played madison square garden, i don't recall seeing any late TM drops.

if i'm waiting that long, or don't know, i'll use stub hub and maybe get seats well below face. did that for teh who, and teh wall. half priced.

i decided to skip the muse show tonight and sold my pair on craigslist. talk about a cluster fuck

i had 150 into the pair, and some kid offered me 100. :fp:

one guy called and asked if there were be alot of cussing or pot use. he was thinking of taking his 11 year old son.

one guy agreed to buy them, than found a better pair, but didn't bother to tell me our meet up was off until after i texted him. his excuse...he was in meetings all afternoon (yet had time to source a different pair)

    what a pita. :fp:

i've bought and sold a few items on CL. most have been easy fast transactions. tickets seem to bring a different type of buyer. :fp:

They can trickle days before, but day-of-show there are always tickets that go on sale, regardless of how sold out a show is. However, arenas are likely to have a higher percentage put on-sale day-of because there are "holds" that are held back from sale because they're not exactly sure about which seats will be blocked from the equipment. Once the sound and lights are "flown" and they know what is blocked and where, then seats that were originally held back will be put back on sale as "tech releases". This usually happens anywhere from 12noon to 4pm, depending on a few things. Seats that are too obstructed are "tech kills" which are not sold.

In an outdoor shed, since all the seats have a decent view to begin with (since it's not an arena going in a circle) then all the seats are known in advance, so very unlikely to have "tech releases" or "tech kills".

Each show has a certain number of tickets that are held back for band use for guests. Could be hundreds, depending on their contract/rider. Once they get their guests confirmed (usually day of show), then tickets they won't need will be dumped back into the system, and those are their personal-use tickets, so usually very good seats.

In any of the above cases typically they are sold at the box office day of show. ....but I've seen a whole row of EV tickets pop up on TM a few days before the show, and one by one, over a period of an hour, those tickets sell, from seat 1 to seat 25 (or whatever) and those times are less predictable.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

    great info!
    thanks for posting.

this is a small venue. which still pertains to what you are saying, just on a smaller scale.
and explains why they 'hold' tickets. which i know they do for radio contests but i had not thought of guests of the band.
