Question about The Beatles Stereo Boxset Remastered

I was thinking about purchasing last years remastered Stereo Boxset but I read quite a few negative reviews about the quality (skips, warps, etc.). I was just wondering if anyone purchased it and has had similar issues. Thanks.

No issues here (haven't listened to everything yet though).

But I bought mine from a record store and they gave me the original box from EMI which came with a housed foam insert that did not allow the boxed set to have any motion. I've read that Amazon is not doing this.

I have noticed some surface level scuff marks on some of the albums, nothing that effects the playback. I've come across one 'pop' on Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. But the sound is beautiful: loud, lush, and clear.
Inside the flip box there's foam inserts that dont allow the albums to shuffle, each album is sealed and the record is in a poly-lined sleave.

But I wouldn't doubt that there are issues with other boxed sets as it sounds like EMI cut corners with the pressing plant they chose. And in a time where albums pressing plants usually get orders of pressing 1000-5000 albums for a band, EMI rushed pressing 320,000 records in order to get the boxed set out by the holiday shopping season.

On the otherhand I think some consumers are a bit over zealous with their Beatles and are expecting perfection and they tend to over critique what they hear or whatever imperfection they come across. These are vinyl records which were are well known for their two flaws: not being portable and being high maintenance to take care of. You just have to accept the vinyl does have a risk of having pops and clicks, which I don't think consumers who have been spoiled with perfect sounding playback on CDs and MP3s are used to.

I guess buyer beware is the best answer.

Thanks for the input. I don`t mind the occasional pop or hiss, it's to be expected with vinyl. I've been wanting this set for some time and it's down to $280 on Amazon. I think I'll pull the trigger, can always send it back if I get one with major flaws. I think you're right about the Beatles elitists who expect complete perfection, just wanted to make sure that quality problems are not rampant.

    Thanks again.

I got mine via Groupon. It was shipped FedEx and was in the original cardboard box from the pressing plant. Packed tighter than a bulls ass. I've listened to them all and they are flawless. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. I would say buy it from a record store rather than online as the record store probably got them direct from the manufacturer and put on a shelf. Less chance of getting damaged IMO.

Would love to buy it in person at a record store but it's at least $100 more. That's the problem.

Ah, I see. I didn't see your post above mine. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Amazon. I deal with them constantly and have had no problems. Like you said, if it is damaged or your not satisfied, Amazon will refund or replace the item no questions asked. Good luck.
