To be sensitive most especially when these people have said they find it offensive.
Cheers to those who care about not making others feel uncomfortable in their own skin.

My friends and I were at the bar the other day and he was commenting on how when he was up north he hit some "black" ice and skidded off the road. Well the table beside us happen to be black and asked if he was to continue with the story if he could use "coloured" ice instead. We laughed and said, no.
Good lord! My guy and I joked about that term just recently.

    (PS to HFD - must...resist! )

    No way!!!

This über PC is getting way out of hand, diminishing the true value of 'proper' political correctness (which does have it's place).

A lot of beers have funky names. Shall we ban the 'Seriously Bad Elf' or 'Ill Tempered Gnome' because it could be seen as making fun of dwarves and labelling them 'bad'. Or maybe the 'Holy Grail' because it could offend Christians? Or the 'Delirium Tremens' as one could think it makes fun of those with Parkinson's or any other illness which causes the shakes?

Let's be reasonable with all of this. There is no offense in the Albino Rhino. The word is naturally used as a noun to identify a person (though I understand one prefers to be a 'person with albinism), animal or plant with the genetic mutation but it is also used as a general term for abnormally pale/white. There are also other uses for the word, ie in philately. Naturally all of the uses are to do with a lack of pigmentation but are by no means derogatory.

Just change the name of the beer for Christ's sake, too much to ask?

yes, it actually is too much to ask. it's bloody ridiculous. I'm all for understanding and respect, but NO ONE is being made fun of here. it's a rhino, a mascot, not a person. it's this sort of bullshit that is turning our youth into whiney little bitches thinking they are entitled to everything and if their feelings are hurt they should turn that into a court case.

if anything, this guy is bringing negative attention to himself and his condition and is doing more harm than good to his group, which is so minutely small because the condition is so rare it makes it all the more stupid.

I'm about as sensitive as they come, but this is just too much.

I actually found that I already own two Albino Rhino beer glasses in my bar. I'm going to be drinking my beer from those from now on.
I completely agree with everything you've said.... It just wouldn't change how the very few people who actually are albinos feel I don't think, and that is who Earl's is accommodating, clearly, since no one else cares (besides Pandora). And if they chose not to accommodate them after they told them how they feel about the beer name as people with albinism, then Earl's might put themselves in some risk at least at a PR level, so they probably did the right thing.

There is no offense in Albino Rhino... except for the people who are albinos and the Society for Albinism or whatever it's called. I don't really know if we can call this PCism at its worst... If non-albinos were getting pissed about it, absolutely it would be.... But Albinos being defensive about it, I'm not so sure that irritates me, and PCism normally does.

Matters not how many :? who cares how rare ... how does this make anything less offensive?
Understand the challenges, the pain and suffering and maybe one will understand
    why it is offensive.

This is the charity close to that mans heart http://www.underthesamesun.com/

these are the stories that matter http://www.southern-africas-children.or ... ories.html

    these are the children http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4qAsw7Y-n8

Above all else this brings awareness.

You call it an albino rabbit, because it is albino. Pretty sure albinos aren't offended by people using the word when you're referring to someone or something with the condition. They only take issue with consumer products being given the name, obviously. I don't know... I don't feel like anyone is looking at this with any sense of balance, frankly, but just lunging towards the slippery slope argument when it really doesn't apply.

Fuck me for taking the bait...but really?

    "inhumane"?

You're grasping here, I think...but have at it.
no actually expressing my opinion... are you making this personal? :?

Actually, you made it personal with "karma is a bitch".

Seriously this whole argument is just 100% ridiculous. And anyone that buys into this sensitivity of albino rhinos is also 100% wrong. Quit looking for the next reason to get outraged.

I swear I'm going to ban you all. You have no problem ignoring me when I say to put someone on Ignore that you don't get along with but you can't put the person you constantly argue with on Ignore. Enough.

    Enough.
