on elbows and knees I low-crawled through mist
searching only for forgiveness
I could not see still
I knew you were gone and no longer
cold and afraid

the early years
the later years
you would not go anywhere
without me
but now it would seem you have . . .

(even if only for a while)

i will always be yours
my best friend
my husband
my heart
my love
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke
