I just saw this setlist for the first time and could not understand how I missed this show. I thought someone hacked the site and made it up. It has one of the best setlists in years. I can't believe it didn't get more talk on the board. Just look at the setlist: Long Road, Red Mosquito, Down, Glorified G, Satan's Bed, Porch, FATAL, Off He Goes, I Believe in Miracles, Leash, Last Exit, DIRTY FRANK, Fuckin' Up closer. I went to the Vic show recently, and even this setlist makes me extremely jealous.

Set 1 Long Road, Why Go, Do The Evolution, Severed Hand, Corduroy, Whipping, Red Mosquito, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Given To Fly, Down, Even Flow, Wishlist, World Wide Suicide, Glorified G, Satan's Bed, Porch

Encore 1 Fatal, Off He Goes, Black, I Believe In Miracles, Alive
Encore 2 Last Exit, Leash, Better Man, Dirty Frank, Comatose, Fuckin' Up

I love this gig, it was my favourite of the four I went to last year.

Here are my photo's from the concert

    26/02/1998 Wellington, 09/09/2006 Marseille, 16/09/2006 Verona
    23/09/2006 Berlin, 30/09/2006 Athens, 18/07/2007 London
02/07/2009 Honolulu (EV Solo), 22/11/2009, Sydney, 29/11/2009 Christchurch
  • Yes, it did happen !
    I was there.
It was my 1st PJ gig, so you can imagine how great it was for me.

Furthermore, I had a seat : 3rd row just in front.
As the venue was not huge (maybe 4000 people I think), it was like I was watching them in my living room.
And the sound was great !

    What a souvenir...
Still waiting for a gig in Paris (in a venue not a festival) since 2006...
    Spin, spin !!

  • I was there... but sadly I cannot remember anything after Wishlist as I was so fucking wasted. When I recovered the next day and looked at the setlist, my jaw dropped... unbelievable!

    It definitely happened !!!
It was worth waiting 6 years to see them back in Europe.
Dirty Franck was a blast ... I wouldn't expect this one.

It's probably not even in my top-5 favourite PJ shows that I went to. Sorry. Still love it though.

  • This is a great example of a show having an amazing setlist but not being a brilliant show to listen to. Being there was probably brilliant, but listening to the bootleg the band sounds pretty sloppy and Ed isn't on top form either.

Great setlist, average performance in my opinion. But that's just me.

Thanks for the input, setlist does look good, but I'd rather listen to a show where they sound really good. Which 2006 shows do you think they sound best on??

From what I've heard so far, I'd say Newcastle, Milan, San Fran3 so far.

this is the real reason for this show not getting so much hype...i downloaded it almost as soon as it got available and the boot its not as good as the setlist...the band sounds a little tired and there is not a great response from the audience...

on the other hand...im sure it would have been great to be there...

I wasnt there, but I think its def one of those you-had-to-be-there shows ;)
    Arent they all? :D

Well being at this show, I didn't notice they were tired. It seemed to me they were having a good time there. And the crowd was great. I was exhausted at the end of the concert !!!

Yeah ... I have been to only 4 PJ concerts despite being a long term fan but this is my #1 show (tied with Wembley, I can't really tell which one I prefer).

I really like the boot but my jugment is biased. Only problem with it is this guy screaming Eddiiiiie between each songs :(

I admit that the main problem here must be some kind of poor acoustic in the venue or recording...the boot dont sound as good as they normally do

can we forget abut that show :(.. please...

BINGO! I downloaded this one IMMEDIATELY upon reading the setlist, too...
The boot definitely does NOT live up to the setlist, but I am glad I have the show, and there are a few absolutely BRILLIANT moments on it...
Can't hold a candle to NEWSCASTLE, or TORINO, or PISTOIA, or ZAGREB, though, imho
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!

the san diego boot is brilliant aswell, AMAZING performance, great set, ed on great form, toasting all band members separately throughout the show as they play their respectively written songs....worth a listen!

I couldn't agree more! I'm not slagging it off just because i wasn't there; anyone who knows me knows i love most bootlegs!

The best from '06 in terms of band performance, in my opinion:

    Cleveland
    Cincinnati
    Las Vegas
    San Diego
Los Angeles 1 (under-rated in my opinion. Ed in particular sounds brilliant.)
    Santa Barbara
    San Fran 3
    Dublin
    Arnhem
Lisbon 1 ( i go back and forth between night 1 and 2, but night 1 sounds better)
Verona (the crowd sounds different compared to other bootlegs)
Milano (crowd is out of this world. Check out Daughter, Black, Crazy Mary, Alive)
    Pistoia
    Zagreb
    Sydney 3
    Adelaide 1
    Perth

They're the ones i go back to regularly.

Yes it was one of those shows that was amazing to be at.

The band were so into it as well and it's just as well that the crowd enjoyed it. Especially considering that the other France show in Paris didn't go quite so well.

It's one of those shows that you definitely need to own the bootleg of. Still puts a smile on my face even now listening to it.

Totally agree with you. This gig kicked ass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I'm partial coz I was there, but I can confirm that the band was not tired at all that night and that I really love that bootleg.
Even after listening 10 seconds of the Long Road intro, I'm still shivering...

Regarding the boot sound quality, excuse me but it's much better than many from the 2000 or 2003 tour.
    Just my opinion...
Still waiting for a gig in Paris (in a venue not a festival) since 2006...

    1. Kitchener 05 (forever number one)
    2. Dublin 06
    3. Hamilton 05
    4. Copenhagen 07
    5. Ottawa 05

something like that. Antwerp 06 & London 05 were damn fantastic as well. But I just couldn't leave out Ottawa for you, could I? :)

haven't heard Cleveland or cincinnati..Las Vegas?? even Ed says in SD that it wasn't a very good gig..I think you're missing Grand Rapids and Gorge for the US side.
Europe: spot on, Lisbon 1 was better even if Lisbon 2 had the better setlist..but you're missing Reading, which I listened to again today..I'm biased but that was an awesome show...can't say I rate Verona...and Zagreb RULED!
Newcastle is the other boot I go back to on that leg..Honolulu also quite good.

I was listening to Gorge 05 today, and whilst a very funny show...they're all over the place and fuck up a lot of the songs! (I like fucks up but you can really tell they were rusty)

I know Ed referenced the bad show in Vegas, and a lot of people here don't rate it but i still don't understand why. Ed may have been sick but apart from one or two songs the band is really tight all night. I still think Inside Job from Vegas is THE definitive version of the song and hasn't been bettered yet.
I've listened to the Gorge shows a few times, they're not too bad but i think there's much better shows from last year; only listened to Reading once so i should give it another spin.

Ed was also sick in Adelaide as I understood it..and in Bern..seems there's always 1 in each leg.. not this year though, not so noticeably anyway.
  • One of my best moments ...

I've been lucky enough to have my TEN YELLOW DIGIPACK signed by ED

+ I got a tambourine from Ed at the end of the show.

... and they played DIRTY FRANCK

Lucky you. I'm jealous now. There was also one guy who brought his guitar and had it signed.
I arrived a few minutes later and they had already closed the gate of the artists entrance. Damned !!!
