The parishioners at First Baptist Church in Dallas will have a celebrity guest in April when NFL curiosity Tim Tebow plans to drop in to share his Christian faith. The church's pastor, the Rev. Robert Jeffress, has carved out a big name for himself with a virulent stand against Barack Obama, gays and rival religions. Among other things, Jeffress has said that "70 percent of the gay population" has AIDS and has denounced Islam, Judaism and Mormonism as religions "from the pit of hell." Speaking of the pit of hell, Tebow should be free of the New York Jets soon, with hopes of being picked up by someone other than a Texas church. [Source]

I can't wait til Tim Tebow announces that he is gay. I want to see all of those heads burst into flames when he does.

    Please no.

    you can have him.

He's all yours like 80s hair metal, roller blades, Jazzercise and the Polyester leisure suit.

And the concept of having a combination bridal and baby shower.

The only problem i have with Tim Tebow... he is not a very good quarterback. All of the hype he got in Denver should have been given credit to the great play of the Denver Defense and the leg of kicker Matt Prather who hit a 59-yard field goal to tie the Denver Broncos’ game against the Chicago Bears, then hit a 51-yard field goal to win the game in overtime.

Most likely. He would have been crucified if he did attend
  • I really like what was written on two different posts about Tebow, one which said if Jesus was alive today I doubt he would be a christian and the other one that Tebow would definetly have gone had he not been outed. To me people like tebow who go around constantly bragging about what great christians they are usually turn out to be the biggest phonies of all. I believe in attraction rather than promotion. Do you think Obama sucks as a person as well seeing as he was a member of a church led by a racist hate monger for 17 years?

Anyway I don't see what the big deal is with Tebow, Im sure he gets tons of offers to speak at these events, when he found out about their background he cancelled.

Obviously you know absolutely nothing about this man and all the good he's done in his life on and off the field. You're not going to find too many professional athletes that give back like he does. Growing up he frequently travelled to the Philippines to help with the orphanage founded by his missionary parents. He's been giving back his whole life so its not like anyone can say he just does this for publicity like so many other athletes. If there ever was a role model in sports it's this guy.
The Tim Tebow Foundation was envisioned by Tim while an undergraduate at The University of Florida (UF). His desire was to launch the Foundation even as a college student but NCAA regulations for athletes prohibited him from doing so. Instead, Tim, along with several other UF students, launched First and 15 under the auspices of the Office of Student Government and with NCAA approval.

First and 15 allowed Tim to mobilize hundreds of students on campus and UF boosters for a number of important charities. It raised funds for Uncle Dick’s Orphanage in the Phillipines and Shands Hospital pediatric cancer center in Gainesville. It supported a special Disney trip for disadvantaged children and gave birth to other exciting projects. “Tim Tebow made volunteering time and raising money for worthwhile causes fashionable on our campus” said Coach Urban Meyer of Tim and his charitable efforts at UF. Upon finishing his four years as a collegiate athlete, he immediately launched the Tim Tebow Foundation in January 2010.

In its first year, the Tim Tebow Foundation –- which brings hope to orphans and kids battling life threatening diseases –- far surpassed its original fundraising goals, the Daily reports. The nonprofit aimed to pull in $2.5 million and managed to rake in a little over $4 million.

Part of its appeal is likely the vast range of programs contributors can connect with.

The nonprofit fulfills wishes of kids battling life threatening diseases, helps children in the developing world suffering from treatable physical disabilities, brings colorful playrooms to pediatric patients and supports homeless and abandoned children in the Philippines.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb ... 10748.html

For all the controversy around his public prayers or his readiness to lead an NFL team to a Super Bowl, few can fault Tim Tebow's acts of kindness.

Just before each football game, when most pro-athletes put on their "game face" and ignore teammates and family members, the Denver Broncos quarterback makes it a point to visit with a struggling fan.

Minutes before the start of last Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tebow took time to chat with 16-year-old Bailey Knaub, a girl who has had 73 surgeries. In Buffalo, on Dec. 24, Jacob Rainey, a young football player who had lost his leg, was the beneficiary of Tebow's pre- and post-game attention. This Saturday, Tebow will meet with 20-year old Zack McLeod on the sidelines as part of The Tebow Foundation's Wish 15 program that grants requests for young people with serious medical issues.

Aren't such charitable activities a distraction from his chosen profession, asked ESPN columnist Rick Reilly.

"Just the opposite," Tebow said. "It's by far the best thing I do to get myself ready. Here you are, about to play a game that the world says is the most important thing in the world. Win and they praise you. Lose and they crush you. And here I have a chance to talk to the coolest, most courageous people. It puts it all into perspective. The game doesn't really matter. I mean, I'll give 100 percent of my heart to win it, but in the end, the thing I most want to do is not win championships or make a lot of money, it's to invest in people's lives, to make a difference."

Tebow doesn't just shower attention on these "coolest, most courageous people." He flies them and their family to the game, pays for their hotel and meals, gets them pre-game passes and visits with them after the game, often walking to the car with them.

Veteran sports writers, often a cynical bunch and not easily won over, are impressed by Tebow, the philanthropist.

"I'm a 100 percent believer," writes ESPN's Rick Reilly. "Not in his arm. Not in his skills. I believe in his heart, his there-will-definitely-be-a-pony-under-the-tree optimism, the way his love pours into people, right up to their eyeballs, until they believe they can master the hopeless comeback, too."

C.S. Lewis warned us of this. He wrote in "The Abolition of Man," "We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.

" We scoff at Tebow and all that he represents and are horrified at the scandals at Penn State and Syracuse. We are right to be horrified, but we shouldn't make fun of our good men.

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/06/opinion/b ... index.html

As for football ability his nfl career is still young but whether or not he succeeds at this level doesn't change the fact that he's arguably the greatest player to ever play college football so I wouldn't say he sucks at the sport.

  • personally i think it's a mistake that he backed out on speaking. think about it, all the members of that church have been hearing one sided speeches of hate and intolerance. how cool would it have been if he went up in front of everyone and said hey, hating people is fucked up. whether you worship islam or like peckers in your booty, we are all equal and deserve to be treated as such. instead what are they going to get instead? i'm guessing more hate and intolerance.

aerial christ i hope that's a typo where you said christians are without sin and they know it.

This is hilarious. This sounds like a Christian bragging about how great Christians are.

I know how much you wish that was true.

    But it isn't.

The ONLY "evidence" of the "racist hate monger for 17 years" you people can come up with is a single heavily-edited video that removed the main point of his speech. That famous "God Damn America" sermon? Have you heard the whole thing? And heard what he was REALLY talking about?

Or just the short sound byte they air on Fox "news?"

Actually...I'm sick of Christians bragging about what a great quarterback Tim Tebow is.
I'm sure, Tim is a nice enough guy... but he really does have to work on his mechanics because although that looping roundhouse movement may have worked at Florida, it ain't gonna work in the NFL. The NFL has people like Demarcus Ware and Clay Matthews... even Jesus cannot protect Tebow from his poor throwing habits.
    ...
Also... Christians really needed to give Prather and the Denver Defense the credit... not Tebow and Jesus. By the way... Jesus probably doesn't care about who wins a football game.

I think it is because Tim Tebow is a public figure.
Personally, I bet that Tebow just talks about his religious beliefs and hopes that it inspires others to spark their own religious beliefs. Nothing wrong with that.
The problems crop up when Tebow either tries to express his personal religious beliefs beyond his own, personal realm and tries to inject it into the greater public at large.
I'm not saying he does that... i'm just pointing out the pitfalls.
    ...
Tebow's worst trait... his fans. His moronic fans that believe Tebow, football and Jesus are the trinity. Again, Tebow should care about football and Jesus.. which he does and that's okay. It's his psycho fans that believe Jesus cares whose football team wins on Sunday.

When a huge star makes a public appearance... that's not his "Private Life."

When someone as universally known as Tim Tebow goes to speak to a huge crowd who were there to see Tim Tebow.. that's a public endorsement of whomever he's speaking for. That's not the same as his "personal life."

I would tend to agree with this.

In all probability, he was advised to back out. Further, he was likely told what to say as he did.
