Obama portrayed as Hitler.

Good grief, don't these Tea Party type people have anything better to do with their time? Today, in front of our post office, a couple of people were handing out "Impeach Obama" leaflets. Next to them were two large posters of Obama with a Hitler mustache and the words "Impeach Obama" at the bottom. My first thought were that these people should get a life and get an education while they are at it. My second thought was that I suppose I should be grateful for these people making fools of themselves and what they stand for.

I know some of you may disagree with this but why is our US post office tolerating this nonsense? OK- they have the right to free speech, but please, take it somewhere else!

th ehead of our states board of ed posted/shared that false quote from hitler. Said she wasnt trying to make the obama is hitler connection.

I would hope that those tasked with overseeing the schools for our state might do a little research before spouting off.

I think it's ridiculous too - but the same shit is slung from "the other side" as well.

    Both suck for it.

Rise above, motherfuckers! (I'm looking at all parties; it'd be short-sighted of me to do otherwise)

As to the protesting...were they on private or public property?

I'm against people comparing anyone to Hitler because it diminishes the horror that was Hitler.

I saw people from the same organization with a table set up outside a bank a few months ago. Being the son/nephew of Holocaust survivors, I had words with the "people", and pointed out that many survivors lived in the neighborhood. The rocket scientist informed me that they have many survivors who support their impeach Obama cause.

I only stand 5 ' 7", but if something enrages me, WATCH OUT!

They have the right to assemble, and I have the right to react!

A lot of people i talk to here have this point of view, but maybe by comparing Hitler to (insert any global politician)we can stop the next Hitler. Why wait until someone else achieves the Horrors that Hitler did,
it would be pointless if it's after the fact.

I agree with this, Kat. I'm against it too...but I have to accept their right to do so - coming from the same place as Joe.

You have a great weekend too. Long one here :)

I've made the contact list now for numerous petitions, just received 3 more to sign.
I like the process, I like free speech, I like our President though don't always agree with him.
Likening him to Hitler is ridiculous and thoughtless very unnecessary and down right weak.
They have the right to do it and I have the right to ignore it. I like our rights, I vote to keep them all.

The vibe was bad- not exactly violent but not what I would call peaceful.

That makes sense, Kat. My biggest issue here is the grossly out of balance comparison.
Thanks and you have a great weekend too! :)

Exactly, Jeanway! These people are exuding hatefulness.

*disclaimer - fucking quotes! couldn't get it right, but was quoting this, brian.

    argh

They were (probably still are) on the sidewalk in front of the USPS.

So then it's their right...right? Don't have to agree with them - I don't - but it IS their right. I wasn't on par with the occupiers from what, a year or two ago, but also supported their freedom to assemble, their freedom of speak out and wonder if they had something better to do.

I'm not really getting the difference, unless it's a matter of (dis)agreeing with them or not. OK to laugh or pity them in one scenario but not another? Nope.

This may be a way-off tangent and apologies if so...but nearly every time I go to our local markets, I'm asked to sign a petition or donate money to a cause. Some I'm for, some not...but I never give out my credit card information to people I don't know and tell them this politely.

I've had shit talked to me for it, among other things. It's not much different.

I say let 'em all be, same for us.

Well first of all, you've got to understand that quotes were invented by the Nazi's as a way to confuse the Luddites who counteracted with the apostrophe. At least I think that's how it goes. Oh, and don't forget- Vonnegut hated the semi-colon!

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure but I guess it's their right but that doesn't make it right to portray our president as Hitler- not to my way of thinking. There are a lot of things that are legal that I think are wrong. And there are a few things that are illegal that I think are just fine.

Even though I said I wished they would go away, I never said they should be arrested or detained. They have the right to be a hemorrhoids as well but I don't want to see a picture of it. That's kind of how I feel about their creepy posters. I guess I'm getting old fashioned and conservative that way.

 I'm pretty sure these bozos are just as ignorant about the Panthers as they are about Hitler.

But I have to say, if their posters depicted Obama in a leather jacket and beret I'd of stolen one of them! :D

these people are motivated by fear. people are not scared of hitler anymore. people are not offended by him anymore. there is a segment of the american population that is quite fearful of a black man with a gun, an afro, and a leather jacket.

That is so true. Sometime I see the anger on these people faces and realize what I'm really seeing is fear. And they're often the same people who try very hard to look bad-assed.

  • I think its stupid when any side compares the President to any evil person or thing.

People did it for Bush, which was stupid. And people are doing it to Obama, which is stupid. In fact, I am sure it has happened to most Presidents.

They do it because deep down they think the opposite side is shit and only their side is right, but in reality both sides want the sane conclusion but have different ideas on how to get there.

I agree. Of course Bush only needed to be compared to himself if you know what I mean. He certainly never stood up well against his father- a president I also had big issues with- but if you read Flyboys you understand that Bush the elder at least had courage.

    But I digress.

This cannot be stated enough. They pretend to love the Constitution but make a mockery of it whenever they can.
