Hey Pearl Jam Fans,

Last year I posted about my participation in the Chicago Polar Plunge and generated some nice donations for the Special Olympics Chicago. I’m plunging again this year on March 3rd, and am 50% to my $2,000 fundraising goal. If interested in support me and the amazing athletes at the Special Olympics Chicago, please click on the link below. A donation in any amount goes a long, long way. The Polar Plunge provides the Special Olympics Chicago with 75% of their annual funding, so this is a big deal. Last year, the Polar Plunge generated $1,000,000 for the Special Olympics Chicago. Thank you to those who support me and my donation goals.

Thanks for posting it, KyleB. We are regular Special Olympics supporters. :)

We support Special Olympics too. right on!
  • I'm about to come across like a complete idiot.

    But I don't get it.

We're paying you money to jump into cold water and you'll give that money to the Special Olympics?

    What am I missing?

    No shit. I'm not illiterate.

And still... this makes no sense to me. I don't understand what one has to do with that other.

Why are people paying you to jump in hypothermia-inducing water?

And don't say "to raise money for the Special Olympics." I don't care who he gives the money to... I don't understand what jumping into cold water has to do with it. Why do people pay for that?

similar to people who"walk for the cure" why do that? or any other charity benefits sponser me to do shit campaign.

who cares why people do it. From appearances the cash goes direct to SO totally bypassing this dude.

I'm failing to see why it matters WHAT is done.

    Another good question.

I understand the concept behind charity shows... people want to see a band perform, they pay to see it and that money goes to a charity. But I mean... are there people who want to see you jump in cold water? I mean... is that a thing? What's their motivation to give you money? To see you shiver in discomfort at the cold water?

    Cuz that's one weird-ass fetish.

I'm failing to see why it matters WHAT is done.

Maybe this is normal to you.

I remember there was an office I worked at for about two weeks where they were having some strange fund raiser where they asked me to give them money so I "could wear a red clown nose" to work and a button that said "I'm wearing this nose for ________"

And that baffled me just as much. I was like... I don't want to wear that... why can't I just give you money and NOT wear the nose.

    They said I was "difficult."

what then about the polar bear club that does for giggles?

at least in this case something good comes from it.

Dudes want to have their nads shoot straight up into their throat, who am I to judge? I dont get "it" either.

I will say though, I agree with your former employer.

Interesting comments, POD. I don't mind that people do stuff to raise money but I have to say I'm much more inclined to make a donation when asked directly. In fact, now that I think of it, I don't remember ever giving other than when asked directly or attending benefit concerts and at some point during all of those someone got up to impart some information about what the money was being raised for.

But hey, I'm an easy mark. Just don't ask me to wear a red nose or a pin or something like that.

At any rate, I think the point is some people need a little more motivation to anti up a few bucks.
