As someone who intended to watch but got thankfully sidetracked, I'd ask if you care to explain what the memes (god I hate that term) are about?
Marco Robio gave the "rebuttal" speech and clearly didn't believe a word he was saying. He wasn't speaking long but his body language and demeanor were a mess... he got twitchy, look like he had to throw up, his voice got gravelly, and he finally just kept drinking water. He looked like a teenager caught by his parents throwing a party while they were away.

It was kinda painful. But entertaining.
I "forgot" to watch too. But suddenly all over FB and emails - Marco Rubio and the "water bottle gate." Ha ha.
honestly the water was just distracting and a bit awkward because he was trying to not let his head go out of frame but he had to bend way over and down.
What I found excruciating was that he sounded like he was just about to burst into tears for most of it. Whining about how mean President Obama is. Like... whining about it.
Let loose a stream of that disproven bullshit "America is exceptional because we're the only country that believes that all people are created equal and here is where poor people move to get rich and once they do they hire MORE people and they become successful TOO."
Careful now we could be looking at our next President.

It must have been an amazing speech last night ... especially since the biggest story I've heard this morning is about someone taking a sip of water.
Forward ....
That was just the most awkward sight gag.
Marco Rubio had a very bad night. He normally is a bit more... calm.
He looked like a hostage being made to read a statement prepared by the terrorists who kidnapped him. Baffled by the words he clearly didn't believe himself, barely able to squeeze out some of the tired old talking points that lost Mitt Romney his dignity 3+ months ago. At one point I thought he was going to throw up.
His whiny tone came across like someone about to burst into tears at any moment and his body language... fidgety, playing with his hands, eyes darting around and shirting his weight back and forth made him look like someone who knew he was the unwilling arbiter of his own political ruin.
And what was with all that blithering about how mean president Obama is?
He knows that we all know his made-up family story is made up, right?
He also knows how laughable his thing about how he does't care about rich people, he cares about his neighbors... when he lives in a rather large house that lists at half a million dollars.
I was surprised at how poorly Rubio did. It was the same company talking points that they lost on.
Obama gave a speech, that while very liberal, tried to highlight common ground, I think at least. He said they have to work together but didn't call anyone obstructionists.
Then Rubio gets up there and immediately says Obama hates Free Enterprise and goes on to trash him for the first 5 minutes of his speech rather than talk about specifics and common ground or disagreements. Then he talks about himself and other generic talking points.
It was brutal. YOUR PARTY JUST LOST ON THAT EXACT PLATFORM. It's not going to work.
God forbid people drink water...I mean, who does that??????!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!??!?!?!
Like I've said... it was just a very odd-looking thing to see someone on TV speaking to millions of people who suddenly did this duck-down, look-up, side-shuffle, low-side move to grab a bottle of water but keep his head in frame.
The speech itself is being both cheered by the right as a "new vision" (a bit confusing since it was pretty much just a recap of the Romney talking points from last year) or torn to sheds for how off-topic and whiney it was.
As as far as the SOTU speech itself... nobody denies president Obama gives a great speech and knows how to work a room so I won't really bang on that drum. It's like being surprised that Tilda Swinton is good in a movie.
Like all SOTU speeches, it was a laundry list of shout-outs to all the issues that he supports, a few digs at the opposing side, a few admonishments to the people who don't do much but complain and (the thing I'm most excited about) a call to return to the days when you really could work hard and succeed. He also seemed to really be trying to say "OK guys... you spent four years attacking me and not doing your jobs... how about you actually show up and work for a change?"
And I'll tell you this... the fact that this president has been SUCH a vocal supporter of my family speaks a lot to his own character. He took a huge risk coming out is support of us and he's never shied away from that. This isn't someone who's going to try to play to the middle on a divisive issue like... letting me sponsor my husband for a immigration.

It is pretty incredible. Of course, Sullivan pointed it out right away last night. When he talks about families it is always gay and straight now. Very cool.

Yep, a very good thing. Though he did play to the middle to get into office the first time.

God what makes news these days. Looking forward to SNL
Doesn't take much sense to figure our what the fella had going on.
I thought his come back spot on, didn't apologize, didn't have to, laughed along
good heartedly. Some stuff out of our control.
I like the spotlight thrown on the one's who are making more than just fun though,
that always trumps.
Oh and I know how to get BS out of one's mouth... good old soap and water
So Trumps joke supported POD's post HA. Think most candidates spew what they know is bullshit. Has to be exhaustive to tailor message for the dummies in US.

there didn't see to be any real point to any of them but the same talking points from all 3 sides.
Interesting
Ahhh, the game that is politics.
Hahahaha, no kidding.

yes, he did. Although that didn't stop many on the right from calling him "the most liberal radical socialist anti-American communist in history!"
So... you know, damned if you do, damned if you don't.
