Listening to music from another generation to yours

Is it just me but I kinda feel embarrassed that almost all the music I love is from another generation and for that particular generation.
Let's take my love for PJ and Nirvana and all the 'grunge' bands, that was for Gen X, I belong to Gen Y (sadly).
People without such an obsession for music as me would probably think "why don't you listen to what is current and for your generation?" or ''why are you living in the past'' or ''you're a gen Y'er why are you listening to music made for your elders'' etc etc.
Am I being stupid here?, not many bands out today do it for me, I don't feel the same emotional connection.

yep. it's called being stubborn. I understand not caring to listen to new music.. but to gripe about music you've never heard is a bit ignorant.. there will always be interesting music being made, you just have to put in the effort to find the music that you connect with.
but like I said, I do understand it. it's called getting old. the older you get, the less interested you are in keeping up with the latest music and/or trends. either because you have more responsibility, and don't have the time, or just simply because your priorities have changed. the music being pushed through the mainstream has, generally speaking, always sucked. so it's not the quality of the music that is changing, it's the listener, their values, and the avenues they are willing to travel to hear new music that changes.
So when PJ, Soundgarden, AIC and all the other grunge bands of the 90s were being "pushed through the mainstream", they sucked?
