Leatherman Strumming question

I just recently got back into playing guitar and the current PJ song I'm working on is leatherman. I had a question in regards to the verse. According to giventowail the tab is like this:

i heard about a man to whom

I've been strumming these notes and I think it definitely sounds like how they play it on the studio version, but I want to make sure Im playing it right. I love how they play this song live and when I look at how eddie plays it in this video, It really makes me want to play it this way:

My question is: I wonder if he is strumming each individual note that fast in the beginning? Or is he strumming the entire chord, then picking the last 3 notes so;

D - 2-2-3

Cadd9 -0-3-3

G - 0-3-3

etc.

Can anyone help with this question? Or do you guys play this song differently? Any advice would be most appreciated! Thanks

I think he is fast picking

I keep looking at the video and I think your probably right, I better keep practicing picking. I never realized how fast he could pick to be honest lol.
