Some worrying news today...
The family of Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison has reported him missing amidst concern for the musician’s welfare. Hutchison, 36, has not been seen since 1 a.m. U.K. time this morning, when he left the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry, Scotland, per the BBC. He is believed to be in Edinburgh, where city police are currently seeking information as to his whereabouts.
Frightened Rabbits tweeted early Wednesday morning, warning that Hutchison “may be in a fragile state” and asking anyone who may know where he is to contact Scottish police.
Scott’s brother Grant Hutchison also took to social media to raise awareness of the situation, writing on Instagram, “Has anyone seen my brother/bandmate/best friend? He’s in a very fragile state and has been missing since last night and we’re all incredibly worried.” Grant added, “Please repost and share and get in touch if you have any info. [Scott’s] phone is with the police.”
All this comes after Hutchison posted a pair of troublesome tweets on Tuesday evening, urging his followers to “hug your loved ones” and concluding, “I’m away now. Thanks.”
“We are keen to locate Scott as soon as possible to ensure he is safe and well, and would urge anyone who can assist with our ongoing inquiries to come forward,” said Inspector Graeme Dignan of Edinburgh’s Drylaw Police Station. “If you believe you have seen him since the early hours of Wednesday morning or know where he currently is, then please contact police immediately. I’d also urge Scott to get in touch with family, friends or with police, to let us know he is alright.”
Scott Hutchison is described by the BBC as being white and six feet tall, with a stocky build, dark hair and a thick beard. He was last seen wearing a dark baseball cap, a navy-blue hooded jacket, grey or khaki trousers, and white sneakers.
Frightened Rabbit formed in 2003, originally comprising the Hutchison brothers. The band has released five studio albums to date, with their most recent being 2016’s acclaimed Painting of a Panic Attack. We listed their 2010 record The Winter of Mixed Drinks among the best indie-folk albums of all time. Scott Hutchison released his first solo album, Owl John, in 2014.

Feeling pretty devastated here (am a huge fan of Frightened Rabbit’s music and for anyone that doesn’t know them, The Midnight Organ Fight is a masterpiece). Such a loss. Makes me feel so grateful for how long we’ve had PJ. RIP Scott Hutchison.
I saw them open for The National in Louisville. I had never heard their music but bought the CD that night.
Very sad.
