24-36 inches or 2-3 feet. And the wind gusts of up to 65mph are going to blow it all over. This is a night to just stay home once you get home.

And here in LA, they're panicking about rain!

Hope you all keep safe out there, and are well-stocked on food and other supplies.

It is weird how just about everyone in the country understands what a bad thunderstorm is and can even empathize when flooding occurs from a hurricane, but probably over half the country will never experience the full force of a blizzard and has no ability to understand what it is like.

Snow is a bastard and those shots on tv don't do it justice!

Not sure what the temperatures are dropping to out there, but stay inside. I had a friend lose two toes because of an ill-timed snowmobile outing in a blizzard. Got lost and turned around in the snow and had to wait it out. I don't know if there is anything more disorienting and panic inducing than zero-visibility due to snow.

Good luck and hunker down with plenty of water and batteries. Seems like every time it thinks about storming out there the power goes out.

I feel sorry for all the sandy victims that are having to weather this storm out in unfamiliar territory.

    Stay safe!

Here in PA most schools were closed today, but here in the Schuylkill River Valley we have only gotten rain and a little sleet so far. All the municipal and school activities are being halted at 5 pm..no evening activities...just when the ice/snow is scheduled to roll into our area.

    Good Luck BOSTON!
You guys are used to it though right?
    peace,

  • Been watching peeps trying to get out of the parking lot here at work for the last couple of hours. I sure hope the train dosen't have that problem. So I can get home to a nice, warm, natural fire.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!! :P

I spend a couple of years in Western New York State right off Lake Erie in the seventies and one of the things I liked about the area were the big freaky storms. I stood by the lake one time facing the north at a 90 degree angle while 100MPH winds kept me from falling on my face. That same storm blew freezing muddy water on all the houses along the lake and the next morning they all looked like gingerbread houses. The ice storms were very strange, especially when the transformers started coming down and making purple explosions on the streets. One storm brought lightening that looked like strobe lights and another time I watched a ball of lightening roll around a house I was visiting in and when it finished circling the house it erupted into God-like thunder. My brother-in-law was walking home once one winter and kicked something along the way. He cleared the snow away and realized it was the top of a street light.

Yeah, it was pretty cool but I was young, daring and reckless. So be safe folks!

So they cancelled school here at 5:30 am. It's been lightly snowing all day til an hour ago, and it has stopped altogether. Remind me why school was cancelled? When I was a kid, they only cancelled school if it was really bad out, and now they cancel because of a prediction that cannot ever be 100% accurate! Public education is bad enough in this country and then it just gets worse by not even opening the school...

(Just had to rant about that...)

We'll be glued to the Weather Channel tonight ...
I hope the media is hyping it some and it's not real bad for those affected. Thoughts and prayers ...

Here they cancelled school today before the storm more or less to convince people to stay at home. Weather forecasting is 20x better than even 10 years ago; it seems to me that they are confident that even if they are wrong, we will still get a foot plus.... Currently the Gov has banned all driving past 4pm (its 445 now) because the driving is starting to get bad. Of course, my wife just left to go to work, her typical commute of 45 minutes will be who knows (she is a 911 dispatcher so cannot call out).
