The Grand Rapids show from 06 gets a big shout out. What an amazingly random show. That's why PJ are the best; they put on amazing shows everywhere they go and don't simply play for the biggest crowds or the most obvious ones. They get up for a show in a place that most bands would either pass over or play a straight hits set and get out in under two hours (cough Chili Peppers in Iowa City cough).

Any other random show recs would be great.

Also, the 06 tour is really amazing.

I am. And I usually look at that but more than a few tossed this one out of nowhere and it's a cool show.

I was not in attendance at any 2006 shows but have listened to about 3/4 of the whole tour. Ironically I do not enjoy Grand Rapids as much as everyone else seems to, but the 2006 tour was one of the best (if not the best). Much like 2005,the band was so full of energy in 2006 and it comes through in the boots. As far as ones you might overlook or not see mentioned as much on the boards I recommend the following:
    Bern
    Cleveland
    Las Vegas
    Melbourne 1
    Santa Barbara
    Torino
    Washington DC

I recommend them based on performance of the band, Ed's voice, energy, and how well the setlist flows. A side note on Vegas though, Ed had a cold but his voice handles quite well up until the last few songs of the main set. Still, Vegas is a fun and energetic show. Best version of Inside Job we will most likely ever get (not to mention it opens the show).

Those are tips I'm talking about. Random openers, weird setlists, different cities. I saw two shows in this tour; one of the best times and worst times I've seen them (granted worst is like rating things that are still very good but we tend to tier every single thing). I also have Toronto and DC and yes those are quite good. Thanks again.

  • 2006 is probably my favorite year too. I'm always surprised it doesn't get more love on here. GREAT sounding boots, fantastic playing.

Ed's energy levels of 98 through the first part of 2003 kind of mar those shows to my ears (Ed seems really down), but sometimes the energy from 2009 - current feels a little forced, like Ed is pushing a little too hard, overly enthusiastic that sometimes rings a little false. 2006 hits the sweet spot for me.

To me, Los Angeles 2 is a huge standout.
    I love Grand Rapids.
    Santa Barbara is very cool.
I'm more into the playing than remarkable setlists, so the Avocado show in Italy doesn't blow me away as it does others, but those Italy shows are fantastic.
Leeds is KILLER energy and really exciting.

Champaign 03 is the total package. One show I really regret missing.

If you like weird setlists, St Louis 03. Present Tense opener really sets the pace.
If you want crazy energy Indy 03.

All three were amongst the best shows of 2003. Far too unappreciated. I find them to be more solid shows than Mansfield 3 and state college.

Chili Peppers played Iowa City in January or February of 00 (Maybe 01). Kinda hazy. But the Foos rocked it and the Peppers just went through the motions. I became and instant Foo fan though, and got to see two bands I always wanted to see.

I picked this one up bc of several mentions in the past couple of weeks. It really was excellent. The crowd was into it from the beginning. The first encore  Eddie...maybe we're just f*cking with you... Really amazing show. I enjoyed it completely. I pulled into my driveway just as mike played the last notes of YL. Perfect day! Thanks to all who recommended this boot.
