Who else is a fan? What's your favorite album? Favorite song? Favorite lyric/line?

I really dig The 59 Sound and Handwritten. American Slang is OK.

Favorite song? right now it is 45 or Desire.

Favorite lyric? Hands down, it's the opening line of Desire. Can't stop playing/singing it over and over:

What makes a man do the things that a man does/To be the very thing he perceives would capture your heart?

Big fan here. My favorite album is The 59 Sound, with Handwritten a close second. But my favorite song has to be DRIVE, from the very underrated Sink Or Swim. Oh God, they've had so many great, classic lines. My most recent favorite is from Mae:
    "I wanna see you tonight
Would you come for a drive?
    You can lean into me
If you ain't been in love for a while"

I've heard this name come up so many times in the past 6 months or so-- keep meaning to check it out but haven't yet.

You would suggest The 59 and Handwritten for a new listener? Or something different?
    Makes much more sense...

Just ordered 59 Sound and American Slang. I first heard of them when they played State of Love and Trust and I didn't really care for it. I picked up Handwritten and played the hell out of it, so hoping I enjoy the other albums as much

I would start with the new album, Handwritten. By far the most polished and commercially acceptable album.

My 2 year old wont let me listen to anything else. 10 times a day he comes up to me asking for Oh Sha La La or Woh Oh. That would be Here Comes My Man and Handwritten.

    :lol::lol:

My 4 year old walks around the house all the time singing "oh sha la la oh sha la la..." And the singing in the car from the backseat

and I'm pretty sure the 6 year old knows the lyrics to the whole album

Oh yeah, I forgot about the car. The second I open the door he is asking for OH Sha la la, or Oh Oh which The Horrible Crowes song Behold the Hurricane. He is unrelenting. Glad I am not alone. :D

  • They're a little more 'poppy' than what I normally prefer with all the background vocal oh, la, la, la, and hyper-saccharined guitar riffs in spots, but Fallon has a way of turning these really unique phrases in his lyrics without requiring a rhyme, and his singing to me evokes a genuine emotional sincerity like you feel listening to Vedder.

The 59 Sound is what got them noticed/famous.

American Slang is decent - a little too worked/polished/etc for my liking.

Love '45', 'Handwritten', 'Here Comes My Man', 'Biloxi Parish' and 'Desire' off Handwritten.

Anyone have an extra or two available for the Riv show next week in Chicago?
  • Kinda went backwards while familiarizing myself with the band.

Started with the newer stuff and went back from there.

    Fav song is 45.

Fav album Sink or Swim by a long shot.
Hey, hey. My, my. Rock and roll can never die.

Seeing my first show tomorrow in Minneapolis. I've been looking forward to it for a couple of months. I'm still bummed that I couldn't make the show they had here back in July.

Looking forward to this show almost as much as Wrigley. Probably my favorite new band of the last five plus years. I just discovered them this summer.
