  • I've been listening to self-titled today. Always really liked that album and I think it might be my 2nd favorite, only to Purple. Amazing album. And to make it after such a long, trouble-ridden hiatus. Scott was one hell of a songwriter!

My top 5 songs, in no order:
    Silvergun Superman
    Still Remains
    Hickory Dichotomy
    Seven Caged Tigers
    Crackerman

I love self titled as well. Maybe second or third favorite album from them along with Purple and No 4. I really love Cinnamon, Peacoat, Maver, and First Kiss on Mars.
  • In no particular order: Maver, Pretty Penny, and Crackerman. The MTV live version of Big Empty is pretty badass, too.

Too hard,it's like picking your favourite child can't be done,,PURPLE and CORE have so many awesome songs
Today I would go STILL REMAINS tomorrow would be a different kid
  • Adhesive and Still Remains are my two favorites. Interesting thinking about it, as I think I think of STP as a hard rocking band, and those are two of their more mellow sogs

To be honest I have never listened to their albums, I only knew Plush and Vasoline (which I like). I never decided to check them out because I got turned off by this from All Music...

"Stone Temple Pilots were able to turn alternative rock into stadium rock; naturally, they became the most critically despised band of their era. Accused by many critics of being nothing more than ripoff artists who pilfered from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains"

Also because a lot of people say they rip off Pearl Jam and Scott sings like Eddie.

I am going to listen to their albums today, I like the songs I have seen friends post up on Facebook in Scott's honour, Wicked Game, Interstate Love Song and checked out Creep (good song) and Sex Type Song.

I think you will find they are very different than Pearl Jam.
Their catalog is much more diverse as well
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

He never sounded like Eddie. It was more of a mannerisms thing early on at the mic.

I regret not buying tickets to see him last month. They were in my cart and i let it go. Meet and greet too even tho it was $75 more

I had a friend who was convinced that "Core" was a carbon copy ripoff of "Ten". I never understood that. I always assumed that he had heard some rock "journalist" say it and that became his position. Too bad for him, he missed out on getting into a totally kickass band.

Wicked Garden. Recorded in 1990. BEFORE Pearl Jam.

I get ZERO similarity between either AIC or Soungarden and STP.

The hard rock and vocal aspect of their music definitely had certain limited similarities with Pearl Jam, but it was just coincidental. Somewhat similar vocal ranges\styles and a hard rock back bone. No copying involved.

But for the record, even my own square ass mother used to refer to STP as "the wannabe's" when they came on the radio, because of my love for PJ and what STP sounded like to her.

And I remember in 1991 a LOT of people kept telling me that STP was "that guy from Pearl Jam with a hair cut and colored hair." .... "Dude, it's the SAME guy. He just has two bands. Duh!"

    LoL.

  • I was actually into STP before Pearl Jam.

Favorite is probably Silvergun...I have a memory of seeing the Sex Type Thing video on MTV and being blown away by the sound. Heavy as hell but intelligent.

I cant get enough of Big Bang Baby right now, the vocal melody is sweet.
Also, early Weiland vocals are a mix between Vedder and Staley imo.

Big Empty for me, with Interstate Love Song in close second.

I loved this band growing up, and saw them once in concert opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers. Scott always had a megaphone that he would yell into between singing. It's sad, but no surprise that his life was short. Dude had demons

Mookie didn't change their name to The Exalted Ones until nearly 1991 and Ten wasn't released until the back half of '91. Blaylock didn't perform publicly until late October in '90. This song demo was already done. I always heard (from other music fans) that large portions of Core were already recorded before Ten dropped. Core just wasn't released until a year later.

Here is an article which verifies what I heard as a kid:
Most of Core written between '90 and '91

I am not trying to start an internet nit-picking fight. And I am a much bigger PJ fan than STP, but to accuse them of stealing from PJ is just wrong, imho.
