Join The Wilderness Society at the Forward on Climate rally - the largest climate rally in history!

On Sunday, February 17, thousands of Americans will head to Washington, D.C. to make Forward on Climate the largest climate rally in history. Join this historic event to make your voice heard and help the president start his second term with strong climate action.

We are a partner in the event, which will show President Barack Obama that Americans want him to lead the fight against climate change - and against the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will add to the problem. We need you there to demonstrate how important it is to take action now on this issue, which affects wildlife, wild lands, our communities and our economy.

My personal climate change (in the form of spiking fever) occurred the same day as this rally. Looks like it was successful:

For those of you who DO find this thread not worthy (others can just ignore it, please) here is the latest from 350.org. This note, some of which is rather disappointing, just came in:

    Dear Friends,

We were going to send you an inspiring video of last weekend’s Forward on Climate rally, but breaking news just intervened:

Reporters this morning uncovered the fact that while 40,000 or more people were outside the White House asking for his attention about Keystone XL, President Obama was playing golf with oil and pipeline executives in Florida.

His staff didn't allow any pictures at the outing -- likely because it’s an embarrassing spectacle for a President who promised to “end business as usual in Washington” and “respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”

Listen: this weekend’s action exceeded all expectations -- we made news in more than a dozen countries and on every major television network. We’ve got lots of new momentum that we’re eager to put to work stopping Keystone, pushing for fossil fuel divestment, and a whole host of other next steps.

But President Obama still hasn't answered our question: which side are you on - ours, or the fossil fuel industry's? With such a big, beautiful rally on the Mall, he was certainly on the wrong side this weekend, but if he can get off the links and into the trenches fighting this problem, that can change.

We need to show the White House they can't get away with doing special favors for Big Oil. It’s fine to take a day off every now and then, but it’s just plain wrong to play footsie with the oil industry. Please click here to read and share the whole story, and make a call to the President: act.350.org/call/obama-golf/

Thank you for being a part of this big movement,

Jamie for the whole 350.org team

P.S. -- We'll send out the video soon, too. We all looked amazing standing together, and we shouldn't forget that.

Wow- I honestly just don't get it. We will argue here on AMT on an on about what kind of car is best or about how cool muscle cars are or about how the Prius are great or the Prius sucks but when a thread about an article regarding a large group (yeah, sorry but I think 40,000+ people is a large group) who gathered to raise awareness about climate change gets only a few responses from one crank who disses the efforts... well I get really, really discouraged. Fuck it, lets just wreck the planet and be done with it.

Brian, I appreciate your passion for this, but it's just not a huge issue for me at this point in my life and I won't apologize (nor be scolded) for it.

I also won't apologize for loving muscle cars ;)

This was not directed at you specifically. Just curious, if climate change is not an issue for you, why do you take the time to post on several threads related to the topic?

No, I get it was to the forum in general.

I said it wasn't a huge issue for me.

Not that it needs justification, but I take the time to post on an assortment of subjects, some of which are important to me and others which are not. Same token, I also don't post on other issues. Sometimes someone's thoughts will spark me to do so (or not).

Same for me. I mean I don't post much anymore, but I generally would approach the Forums as you described in your post (above).

My apologies to all. I am very passionate about the subject. I've watched the physical world change since my childhood and get frustrated by watching our impact on the planet continue to degrade our environment. Perhaps I expect too much here. This is, after all, a current events segment of the forum-- not strictly an environmental one.

After seeing how much money that has been made scaring people with Climate Change. I don't believe the hype on Climate Change, you can change Mother Nature. The Earths climate is and has always changed.
But I do believe we should not pollute we should recycle and we should hold Corporations accountable when they pollute our lakes, rivers and oceans. I feel corps take the cheapest way out. They could do more to keep it clean.
But charging corporations emission tax is a scam.
But thank you! and I appreciate your concern for our Earth!

I'm sorry you believe we are trying to scare people with climate change and I am sure there are people out there trying to capitalize on the issue. If some one discovered a cure for all diseases or found out how to reach nirvana or could convince the world love is better than hate, someone would be out there trying to make a fast buck off it.

In any case, thank you, Aerial, for supporting a cleaner environment and likewise, for your concern for the environment as well. We're all in it together.

    Have a great weekend. :)

Well there will come a time when it will be too late to do anything to save the earth as its climate changes. We will then become as extinct as the many animals we humans driven from this planet. We won't be able to save ourselves, thank you Brian for your consistent passion on this subject. It's more vital than many of us think, I'm seeing more and more people less inclined to do the simple act of recycling. I wish I was there in DC to voice my mind back at my former home.

Thanks g under p. Like I've always said, I keep hoping for the best as in Vaclav Havel's: "Hope is not the conviction that things will turn out well but rather it is the conviction to do what makes sense no matter how things turn out."

Every small thing we can do to make a difference and at least buys us and some other living organisms (and maybe even some nice rock outcroppings) a little more time.
