Song, Studio, Live Performance or whatever...
Live in Pittsburgh May 1970 is pretty much perfect in my opinion.
There is a medley of sorts in the middle - Mystery Train, Away in India, Crossroads Blues. This is one of my favorite pieces of music ever. When you consider what was going on in Jim Morrison's life at this time while listening to this you can really feel the man's pain. He was at a crossroads; jail or split. He split. Don't know if he would have ever come back from Paris anyway.
There is also The Soft Parade tag in When the Music's Over which is great.
It's cool too because Roadhouse Blues is pretty new at the time and the audience doesn't cheer when the song starts, but a little later, I bet that is when Jim Morrison walks out onto stage.
I just love listening to this show...if you haven't heard it give it a try!
Oh yeah, at the very end there is a quintessential Pittsburgher who addresses the audience, it's a real nice touch.

The Doors might be the only band where one of my favorite albums is a Greatest Hits. The reissue of Greatest Hits in '96 with more tracks. It was the first Doors CD I bought, and I still have a soft spot for it even though it's now redundant in my collection. It's a pretty good overview and the live version of Roadhouse Blues I loved. Where does that version come from? I want to say it's from Boston, because the "Astrology Rap" that comes after the song is from Boston 1970, but the song could be from anywhere I guess, because they tacked it onto the back of Roadhouse Blues, where on the actual concert that occurs after Five To One.
I couldn't listen to them all the time, but every now and then I just have to
Me neither, I usually have to be in the right mood for them. But when I'm in the right mood, I have to listen to them because nobody else has that sound, for better or worse. I love Robbie's style so much, but he often takes a backseat to Ray's keyboard work, which is my main hangup. I'm just not in the mood for all that keyboard and piano sometimes. He's very good, just not always my sound.
Just sent you a pm
thanks.
No problem enjoy

I am usually in the mood when I'm piss drunk. My first three cd's were Morrison Hotel, LA Women, and Back in Black. I remember for a few reasons: I got them all at once by chance, I was 17 and cd's were new and scarce, my Dad (Vietnam Vet) dug the doors. His favorite song was Shaman's Blues.
The keyboards do get in the way, I agree. But, the live shows have a celebration vibe because of them. Robbie is so good!
Anyone who has only listened to the compilation live albums should really get one of these newly released full concerts. If you can put the headphones on or on a long drive just sort of zone as if you are in the audience it is quite a trip.
I suggest the Pittsburgh show start to finish. But I'm from Pittsburgh and have a vivid memory of the Civic Arena and when I imagine the doors in that building it is really f'n awesome. At the end of Mystery Train Jim Morrison gives a "wooo woooo" with his full voice and you can hear it echo in that arena, wow just wow.
