I didn't read all of the Northern Illinois story, but the Tennessee problem can probably be summed up in that one quote...
“We’ve got to get football healthy,” athletic director Dave Hart said from his office in the new $50 million Brenda Lawson Athletic Center, just weeks after hiring Butch Jones from Cincinnati to be the Vols’ fourth football coach in the last six years. “That’s our economic engine. When that program is successful, everybody wins.”
A $50 million athletic center and 4 coaches in 6 years. All of whom they probably had to buy out of a contract. They're spending money like the big boys, but they don't pull in the same cash. They're trying to keep up with the SEC Joneses.
