regardless of what you think of Paul Ryan, is he right in his thoughts that if Hillary were president the fiscal mess would be over?

I think it is obviously highly speculative but interesting to think about.

I'm not convinced that he was talking about Hillary.

"Of course, one wonders if Ryan meant a Bill Clinton presidency or a Hillary Clinton presidency.

Unfortunately, Gregory didn't ask him to elaborate."

But no, I don't believe a Hillary presidency would have fixed this. Nor do I believe a McCain presidency would have.

His reference to Erskine Bowles, Bill's Chief of staff, leads me to believe he was talking about The Slickster.

soo ... Ryan is basically saying either:

    1. Barrack Obama is a moron
    2. Barrack Obama is horrible at bridging the partisan divide or
    3. the GOP are not willing to work with Barrack Obama but would a Clinton

    any other possibilities?

    4. He was just trying to say something nice about Bill Clinton and not really thinking about how his words could be construed beyond that. (I know, this one is unlikely.)

I didn't really think about that was just surprised to see nice words about either of them.

Same here. I mean, gosh! They actually found common ground on something...nice when people aren't spitting at each other from "across the aisle", eh? (I just wish it weren't so damned surprising :P )

As for all of the Republicans shutting the fuck up...no one's voice should be silenced, no matter the view. I may not agree with everything put forth (talking all parties and people here) but 1) I may learn something new, and 2) I'd rather know where someone stands on issues - especially so-called radical or unpopular ones - than not. Telling them to stfu is a bit narrow-minded and doing a disservice to oneself.

I think he's leaving out the fact that G.W.B. came after Clinton and before Obama, thus his "what if" is rather inaccurate.

does anyone REALLY think that ryan and the gop would have worked with either bill or hillary clinton? they do not like obama, and they like the clintons even less. they impeached bill for fuck's sakes. and that was personal. it was not over anything relating to his performance as commander in chief. it was because they had grudges against the clintons and spent $50 million bucks investigating them.
