Massive Explosion Reported At Iran's Fordow Nuclear Facility

Anyone else see this? It could be a false report and Iran is denying it. But what if .....

Reports of an explosion at Iran's Fordow nuclear facility surfaced late last week and have been independently confirmed today.

The Jerusalem Post cites a report by Reza Kahlili who said: “The blast shook facilities within a radius of three miles. Security forces have enforced a no-traffic radius of 15 miles, and the Tehran- Qom highway was shut down for several hours after the blast.”

There is so far no news on what might have caused the explosion. One question is whether it was the result of an attack on Iran.

This possibility seems very remote, but talk of the U.S. possibly bombing Iran surfaced in the news late last week when Israel's departing defense minister, Ehud Barak, said his country had written off plans to attack Tehran on its own in the face of a "surgical" plan put forth by the Pentagon.

Reports then surfaced within days that Iran's Fordow nuclear facility was severely damaged in an explosion and up to 240 workers trapped inside. The explosion was reportedly confined to the plant, suggesting that if it was an airstrike, it doesn't get more "surgical" than that. But this possibility is no more or less likely than sabotage, or an accident, assuming the explosion occurred at all.

Iran's official news agency, IRNA, promptly denied the explosion, claiming the news was simply the result of the Western media-fueled "propoganda machine."

That might have ended the story there, but The Times of London's Israel correspondent Sheera Frenkel is confirming the incident through her own independent sources:

An explosion is believed to have damaged Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, which is being used to enrich uranium, Israeli intelligence officials have told The Times. Sources in Tel Aviv said yesterday that they thought the explosion happened last week. The Israeli Government is investigating reports that it led to extensive structural damage and 200 workers had been trapped inside.

One Israeli official said: “We are still in the preliminary stages of understanding what happened and how significant it is.” He did not know, he added, if the explosion was “sabotage or accident”, and refused
to comment on reports that Israeli aircraft were seen near the facility at the time of the explosion.

Possibly 240 people trapped inside. What a nightmare and a tragedy if it was an accident..or even if it wasn't for the families of those people. Was there anything on Twitter? Can the people living there tweet about what they saw?

Are Twitter and those types of websites blocked from there?

I did a search and couldn't find anything beyond the news in your article. I sure hope it's not true or a huge exaggeration.

I found many sources saying it's not true?

I guessing the story is not true although I wouldn't put it past Iran to lie about it. If it happened a week ago, seems that major media outlets would have something on it. But that facility is probably the hardest place to have available sources to get the low down.
  • If this was indeed true. With the way the west has been able to sneak worms into their computer network, you'd think that they could just cause an internal problem without the use of a military.

Turned out to be a false report. Israel said it didn't happen and I think inspectors are at the site today.
  • All the work the Iranians are doing is above their paygrade! They are playing with fire and are about to get burned! If its true, great! If its not, what was the agenda for the story?

Also, if we could just hack their networks.....then that makes us great! Just another way to do the business of GOOD in the world without WAR! Most of you on here should support that

Really? What a shitty thing to say. You do realize the people that work there are not the crazy batshit leaders that we really have a problem with yeah?

What if someone from Iran came on here and said "great!" if we have a military accident, or even a nuclear accident?

    You would go absolutly ape-shit.

I wonder, what it must be like for one to go through life with so much hate in their heart?

not actually afraid, more of a figure of speech. everyone is worried about iran and their nuclear development and north korea seems like their chomping at the bit to try out their stuff.

    i stand corrected.

    not everyone.

and what north korea is 'chomping at the bit' to do isnt anything all the other bomb happy countries have done. the french 'tried out their stuff' in the south pacific.. far away from paris.. but close enough to me that it pissed me off. the english 'tried out their stuff' right here in australia... far away from london and even closer to me. so to be honest with you im not all that concerned with tehran and pyongyang. ive got more important and imminent things to worry about than what idiot men might be doing. plus i can think for myself which helps oodles.

Hey bud, everything going on in Iran is ILLEGAL and DECEPTIVE!! They are part of it and they are in over their heads! The country needs to spend their little bit of money on feeding its people and growing their economy. They waste money and resources trying to accomplish dumb things! Got it?

As always you missed my point "bud". I'm not speaking about the politics of it. I'm talking about the people who are just doing a job, that if this were true, lost their lives. Don't forget, it's not like they can just say "fuck this, i'm not doing what this crazy fucker wants me to do" like we can over here.

I'm sure there are many people working on Irans nuclear program that would rather not be.
They are innocent of their leadears crazy shit. Got it?

I did take that wrong. Or mayabe i just can't seperate the politics from the human side of it.

Either way, it's all good. Regardless of our different points of view, I enjoy a counter point of view.
It at least makes me look at my views, and be certain i feel a certain way about certain things.

Isn't there a scene in one of Kevin Smith's movies where the characters discuss why no one cried for the blue collar guys that were working on the Death Star when the rebels blew it up? This seems similar, they weren't bad guys just standing to close to bad guy stuff.

  • I think Iran has every right to nuclear "power". Let them have it and if they abuse it they will be punished. You can't condemn a people or government for what you think they might do. :nono:

Can't blame a country for attempting to better themselves. I have no problems with them trying to gain nuclear power.

Hacking another country's network? There is nothing good about that at all. Leave them alone and stop being so afraid.

Not our problem if they want to spend money on nuclear advancement instead of feeding people.

I've never seen an Iranian on Twitter

Through some further digging I found that in 2001 the Ayatollah urged the government to control the Internet in Iran. No surprise that the legislation quickly passed... Khamenei runs the show. ISP's are required to have a government issued license so that they can be monitored... ISP's are to be filtered so as to “block access to forbidden immoral and political websites and other undesirable sites”.

To register for a license, one must not be a part of any anti-government organization.

I very highly doubt that twitter is allowed in Iran... Theocracies suck

Makes me wonder if you support the fact that since they could not hack networks and did not use bombs, but used airplanes instead, that it was just another way of doing buisness. Seems to fit your type of agenda.
