The Grammy nominated rapper was performing at the StartUp RockOn Inauguration bash at the Hamilton Live Theater when he publicly criticized the president. According to concertgoers, the 31-year old performer went on an anti-war, anti-Obama rant during which he shared that he didn't actually vote for the president.

This is nothing new for Lupe. He is very radical in his political beliefs, almost to the point of an anarchist. I believe at this particular concert, he went on a tirade for about half an hour, repeating all or part of the first verse to the song "Words I Never Said" for around a half an hour over the instrumentals for the songs he was scheduled to perform. At that point, he was removed from the stage. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think it was something along those lines. The lyrics in question are below:

"I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bulls***
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups
Your childs future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, that's on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move it so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the f***s”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that ain't Jersey Shore, homie that's the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say s***
That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people."

whatever happened whatever was said during the set, i commend him for having the courage to make a point at the obomba pre party...maybe next time respectfully decline the engagement and list the grievances, but that prob would not have made "the news"

Never heard of the guy - hell, I thought "fiasco" related to what happened, not that it was his name.

Never heard of the guy either. But, i like the fact that he raps about politics... rather than money, jewlery, cars and gold digging whores.
I'm glad he spoke his mind.

    I agree.

I checked him out a bit, fully expecting to see the typical shallow and misogynistic lyrics - and was pleasantly surprised.

I really like Lupe, after seeing a few interviews with him and hearing him speak a few years ago, no doubt he's well read, and he's for sure not the typical musician.

and his support for a Free Palestine is heart warming.
  • If this guy is so vocal about politics, why was he invited to a political gala?

he is involved with the promoter startup rock on. they prob thought he would be a polite guest.

During an interview with CBS in 2011, “My fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama and the United States of America. I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism.”
“You know, the root cause of terrorism is the stuff the U.S. government allows to happen. The foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists.”
Lupe has also criticized Obama’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and has stated that he does not vote in elections because of his anti-establishment views.

This guy may be a no name or one of the biggest names in the rap game for all I know.

You are probably right. Still, all our tax dollars going to all this crap & yet nobody was paid to check out the performer list and/or their views or their music beforehand?

I see this like the AMT threads about when Vedder wings one of his political bombs during a PJ show. Some here are offended, want the performance to be just music, but given that PJ sings about social ailments, I'd say you have to expect a bit of rhetoric at said show. However, when you are paying for entertainment at your big hoopla, I see it as poor taste to use that pulpit to slime the guy who bought your services.
If this rapper is that 'big' then he could still 'speak-out' about his grievances on his own dime; at his own shows.

By my posts, most of you are probably quite aware of my grievances with how things are going down. Views that dole out the blame for a much broader reach than just Obama's reign. I could probably agree with this rappers views but certainly not his decency. But! that might just be a rapper expectation; devoid of decency!

I'll add to another's list of what rappers always rap about. It's the main reason I don't like rap. With women, they don't just rap about gold-diggin' ones but rap also about the bitches, the c--nts, the whores and with that, goes an attitude of disrespect for the whole gender.
My conclusion; rappers in general don't have much class no matter how many diamonds they wear.

now that you mention is Ed has been pretty mum on the politics at the shows say for the last 3 or 4 years
  • I've never been to a show though I seem to listen to Pj radio most of the time to the point where I feel like I've been to a few. Do you suppose it's cuz Obama doesn't rile him like Bush?
  • JimmyVJimmyV Boston's MetroWest Posts: 19,183
It is part Obama not riling him like Bush, part giving Obama a chance, and part that he really hasn't been quiet about politics at shows. He was fired up about the fiscal cliff in Clearwater and there is still at least one mention a night of veterans and wounded warriors.

Ah...my poor neglected blog! The election in 2008 really inspired me. I have been struggling for inspiration ever since.

    Thanks for reading!

Yes. Would it have been clearer with numbers?
