London Astoria has been sold.

Was owned by the Mean Fiddler Group which last summer was bought
by Clear Channel. (Which also gives them 38% of the Glastonbury Festival, ugh!).

Has now been sold to developers for 24 million sterling.

Clear Channel bought out / took over Mean Fiddler.

Check out http://www.meanfiddler.com for all the festivals that they own/run.

Now check out the controversy section here...

Now a large amount of gigs/festivals I go to puts money in these guys pockets. I don't like that.

So, back to the original topic, they obviously decided that the Astoria wasn't worth holding onto when it could be sold for 24mil. I've never been but I guess some folks might be nostalgic about this place.

What a complete joke. That's a horrible spot for flats anyway. It's very central but who'd really want to live there of all places?

At least I'll always have my golden Astoria memories... but still. Fucking clearchannel.

Ok... I'm seeing a band there in September, better not effect it. I was well excited about returning to the Astoria...

Nah they will have to honour the events happening there so far, or move them to another venue if necessary :)

It's sad though, the memory of PJ lives on but it's one of those things where in years time when you go by it, you'll say "I' remember when that was as lovely music venue, now look it, all houses" :( :(
